Henry and Ann had at least nine children – Margaret (1727), Richard (1729), Henry (1731), William (1734) Thomas (1736), Edward (c 1738), Ann (1742), Mary (1746) and Nicholas (1747). The seven eldest children appear to have been born at Ryarsh and Henry moved his family to West Malling in 1744. A settlement certificate dated 6th June 1744 survives in the West Malling parish chest – this gave Henry the approval to move to a different parish. Henry may have been buried at West Malling on 15th May 1775 – the burial register reads “Henry Alchin senior”. (this marriage and some or all of these children may however be more relevant to Henry Alchin born at West Malling in 1709 son of Thomas Alchin see para 1.2.1.7). 1.3.5.1 ~~ Margaret Alchin Margaret was born at Ryarsh on 9th March 1727 and she was baptised at St Martin’s church, Ryarsh on the same day. Margaret was not included with the rest of her siblings on the settlement certificate dated 6th June 1744 which allowed her father to move his family from Ryarsh to West Malling. She was possibly already working in service elsewhere. Margaret had an illegitimate daughter - Elizabeth (1750). 1.3.5.1.1 ~~ Elizabeth Alchin Elizabeth was baptised at St Mary’s church, West Malling on 24th February 1750. 1.3.5.2 ~~ Richard Alchin Richard was born at Ryarsh on 15th May 1729 and he was baptised at St Martin’s church, Ryarsh on 20th May 1729. He was a witness at his younger brother’s wedding at West Malling in July 1755. Richard may have married an unknown person with whom he had at least two children – Henry (1747) and John (1754). He may also be the miller at Meopham referred to in the will of Henry Alchin of East Malling. Was he also the father of William Alchin (1750) who was baptised at Meopham on 11th November 1750. The father of William according to the Bishop’s Transcript of the register was John Alchin. The baptism does not survive or exist in the parish register itself and it would not be the first time that the parish clerk got the details of a baby’s family wrong. There is a 7 year gap in the baptism of his two known childrem and William’s descendants lived at East Malling and worked in menial occupations. Richard was possibly buried at Meopham on 19th November 1796 aged 67 years. 1.3.5.2.1 ~~ Henry Alchin Henry was baptised at the church of St John the Baptist, Meopham on 12th July 1747.
