4. The Descendants of Francis and Catherine Alchin of London
1.1.2.5.4.1 ~ Violet May Alchin
Violet was born at Carlton in 1915 (Vic 1915/10461).
She married Cyril Charles Hillier in 1933 (Vic 1933/2134).
1.1.2.5.4.2 ~ Milne Walter Charles Alchin
Milne was born at Collingwood in 1918 (Vic 1918/2367).
1.1.2.5.4.3 ~ Alfred Victor Alchin
Alfred was born at Collingwood on 20th April 1921 (Vic 1921/11655).
He enlisted in the Army at Moonee Ponds on 30th June 1941 (V47843). Alfred was
discharged with the rank of Private from the 37th Works Company
on 9th May 1946.
1.1.2.5.4.4 ~ Ellen Bronwyn Alchin
Ellen was born in 1923 (Vic 1923/11898).
1.1.2.5.5 ~ Victor George Alchin
Victor was born at Ballarat in 1886 (Vic 1886/7629).
He married Bertha May Reynolds in 1917 (Vic 1917/6104). Victor
and Bertha had at least one child – Stanley (1918). Victor died
at South Melbourne in 1932 (Vic 1932/6726) aged 46 years. Bertha
subsequently married Fritz August Occolowitz in 1940 (Vic 1940/1181).
1.1.2.5.5.1 ~ Stanley Victor Alchin
Stanley was born at Carlton in Melbourne on 25th January 1918 (Vic 1918/1618).
He enlisted in the Army (VX144396).
1.1.2.5.6 ~ Ellen Ethel May Alchin
Ellen was born at Ballarat in 1888 (Vic 1888/17604).
She died at Coburg in 1890 (Vic 1890/6559) aged 2 years.
1.1.2.5.7 ~ Elsie Mary Alchin
Elsie was born at Ballarat in 1892 (Vic 1892/714).
She married George Henry Gay in 1941 (Vic 1941/9669).
1.1.2.5.8 ~ Violet Eileen Alchin
Violet (Vi) was born at Ballarat in 1895 (Vic
1895/9201). She married Frederick George Moate in 1920 (Vic 1920/13697).
1.1.2.6 ~ Louisa Dent Alchin
Louisa was born in the parish of St James, North
Melbourne in 1855 (Vic 1855/19120). She married Henry Currer at
Melbourne in 1891 (Vic 1891/5597). They lived at Hawthorn and later at
Shepparton. They had three children.
1.1.2.7 ~ Walter Joseph Alchin
Walter was born in Melbourne in about 1857. Walter
married Jessie Blaikie in 1892 (Vic 1892/6785); she was the daughter
of John Blaikie and Jeannie Laidlow and she was born in 1865 (Vic 1865/5162).
Walter and Jessie had at least four children – Laura (1894), Stoddart
(1899), Isabella (1905) and Nellie (1906).
Walter was a saddler of 1328 Sturt Street, Ballarat.
Walter died at Ballarat on 27th December 1913 (Vic 1913/12069)
aged 56 years (Probate Vic 132/781). The 1914 and 1931 electoral
rolls record that Jessie was still living at that same address. Jessie
died at Ballarat on 21st
February 1947 (Vic 1947/17797) aged 82 years (Probate Vic 387/582).
They are buried in the same grave with their two young children in the
Old Ballarat
Cemetery.
1.1.2.7.1 ~ Laura Jean Alchin
Laura was born at Ballarat in 1894 (Vic 1894/556).
She married Charles William Moore in 1918 (Vic 1918/7863).
1.1.2.7.2 ~ Stodart Leonard Alchin
Stodart was born at Ballarat in 1897 (Vic 1897/15476).
He died at 329 Sturt Street, Ballarat on 23rd July 1904 (Vic
1904/7261) aged 7 years. He is buried with his parents in the Old
Ballarat Cemetery.
1.1.2.7.3 ~ Isabella Alchin
Isabella was born at Ballarat on 10th June 1905 (Vic 1905/7808).
She died at 329 Sturt Street, Ballarat 3 days later (Vic 1905/4145).
Isabella is buried with her parents in the Old
Ballarat Cemetery.
1.1.2.7.4 ~ Nellie Alchin
Nellie was born in 1906 (Vic 1906/23813).
The 1931 electoral roll records that she was employed as a clerk and she
was living with her widowed mother at 1328 Sturt Street, Ballarat. Ellen
married Donald Robinson in 1932 (Vic 1932/4791).
1.1.3 ~ Louisa Alchin
Louisa was probably born in London between 1810 and
1825. There is a Lousia Alchin, daughter of Thomas and Ann Alchin, who
was born on 20th July
1812 and who was baptised at Christ’s church, Greyfriars in London on
27th September 1812. It seems likely
that it was this Louisa Alchin.
When her father died in 1826 Louisa and her sister
Emma were bequeathed a half share in a public house known as “The Ship”
in Wormwood Street, Bishopsgate. Louisa may have married in 1844 (Worcester
1844 December qtr Volume 18 Page 689).
1.1.4 ~ Emma Alchin
Emma was probably born in London between 1810 and
1825. When her father died in 1826 she and her sister Louisa were bequeathed
a half share in a public house known as “The Ship”
in Wormwood Street, Bishopsgate.
1.1.5 ~ Jane Ann Alchin
Jane was probably born in London between 1810 and
1825. When her father died in 1826 she was bequeathed his property at
14 Shorts Gardens,
Middlesex. Nothing else is known of her at this stage. Jane may never
have married. She may have died in 1902 aged 80 years (Headington 1902
December qtr Volume 3a Page 550).
1.2 ~ Sarah Alchin
Sarah was born at St Ann’s church, Blackfriars on
31st May 1789.
1.3 ~ John Alchin
John was baptised at St Ann’s church, Blackfriars
on 5th January 1794.
1.4 ~ William Alchin
William was baptised at St Ann’s church, Blackfriars
on 28th June 1795.
Was he in fact William Turner Alchin the noted antiquarian who died in
1865. That man married Elizabeth Bird at St Maurice’s church, Winchester
on 30th August 1830.
