1.3.5.2.2.1.2.5  ~~  John Thompson Loveland

John was born at Maidstone in 1843. The 1851 census records that the school boy was living with his family at St Peters Street, Maidstone. The 1861 census records that John was employed as a gardener and he was living with his parents at 9 Bush Row, Aylesford.

John married Sarah Crayford in 1868 (Maidstone 1868 September qtr Volume 2a Page 853). John and Sarah had at least five children – Charles (1869), Cecil (1872), Edith (1877), Leonard (1879) and Eva (1883). The 1871 census records that John was the head gardener and he and his young family were living in the gardener's cottage, Wateringbury Street, Wateringbury.

The 1881 census records that John was employed as a gardener at Tovil House and he and his wife and their four children were living at Tovil Green, Maidstone. The 1891 census records that John was a gardener and he and his wife and their five children were living at 137 Weeks Street, Maidstone. During the 1890's John went into business on his own account.

The 1901 census records that John was a fruiterer and green grocer and he and his wife and four of their children were living at 10 Brewer Street, Maidstone.

1.3.5.2.2.1.2.5.1  ~~  Charles Alfred Loveland

Charles was born at Yalding on 26th May 1869. He was baptised at All Saints' church, Maidstone on 11th July 1869. The 1871 census records that the toddler was living with his family at Gardeners Cottage, Wateringbury Street, Wateringbury. The 1881 census records that the school boy was living with his family at Tovil Green, Maidstone.

The 1891 census records that Charles was employed as a gardener. He was a bachelor and he was living with his parents at 137 Weeks Street, Maidstone. Charles married Elizabeth Ann Short (Lambeth 1892 September qtr Volume 1d Page 732); she was born at Maidstone in 1867. Charles and Elizabeth had at least four children – Leonard (1894), Lavinia (1900), Cyril (1902) and Bessie (1906).

The 1901 census records that Charles was a fruiterer and greengrocer and he and his wife and their two children were living at 37 Upper Stone Street, Maidstone. The family were still living there in 1906.

1.3.5.2.2.1.2.5.1.1  ~~  Leonard Alfred Loveland

Leonard was born in London in about 1894 (St Saviour Southwark 1894 March qtr Volume 1d Page 188). The 1901 census records that the school boy was living with his family at 37 Upper Stone Street, Maidstone.

1.3.5.2.2.1.2.5.1.2  ~~  Lavinia Julia Loveland

Lavinia was born at 37 Upper Stone Street, Maidstone in 1900 (Maidstone 1900 March qtr Volume 2a Page 805) and she was baptised at All Saints' church, Maidstone on 4th February 1900. The 1901 census records that the toddler was living with her family at 37 Upper Stone Street, Maidstone.

1.3.5.2.2.1.2.5.1.3  ~~  Cyril Charles Loveland

Cyril was born at 37 Upper Stone Street, Maidstone in 1902 and he was baptised at All Saints' church, Maidstone on 7th September 1902.

1.3.5.2.2.1.2.5.1.4  ~~  Bessie Irene Loveland

Bessie was born at 37 Upper Stone Street, Maidstone in 1906 and she was baptised at All Saints' church, Maidstone on 5th February 1906.

1.3.5.2.2.1.2.5.2  ~~  Cecil John Loveland

Cecil was born at Wateringbury in 1873 (Malling 1872 June qtr Volume 2a Page 473). The 1881 census records that the school boy was living with his family at Tovil House, Maidstone. The 1891 census records that Cecil was a gardener and he was living with his parents at 137 Weeks Street, Maidstone.

The 1901 census records that Cecil was working in the family's greengrocery business. He was unmarried and he was living with his parents at 10 Brewer Street, Maidstone. Cecil married either Mildred Cyster or Evelyn Margaret Miles in 1902 (Maidstone 1902 September qtr Volume 2a Page 1723).

1.3.5.2.2.1.2.5.3  ~~  Edith Sarah Isabella Loveland

Edith was born at 77 Bowen Street, Maidstone in 1877 (Maidstone 1877 September qtr Volume 2a Page 617) and she was baptised at All Saints' church, Maidstone on 21st October 1877. The 1881 census records that the young girl was living with her family at Tovil Green, Maidstone.

The 1891 census records that the school girl was living with her family at 137 Weeks Street, Maidstone. The 1901 census records that Edith was unmarried and she was working in the family's greengrocer business. She was living with her parents at 10 Brewer Street, Maidstone.

1.3.5.2.2.1.2.5.4  ~~  Leonard Ernest Loveland

Leonard was born at Maidstone in 1879 (Maidstone 1879 December qtr Volume 2a Page 666). The 1881 census records that the young boy was living with his family at Tovil Green, Maidstone. The 1891 census records that Leonard was a school boy and he was living with his family at 137 Weeks Street, Maidstone.

The 1901 census records that Leonard was a butcher. He was unmarried and he was living with his parents at 10 Brewer Street, Maidstone. Leonard married Millicent Neaves in 1907 (Maidstone 1907 March qtr Volume 2a Page 1251). Leonard and Millicent had at least one child – Doris (1908).

1.3.5.2.2.1.2.5.4.1  ~~  Doris Millicent Loveland

Doris was born at 43 Upper Stone Street, Maidstone in 1908 and she was baptised at All Saints' church, Maidstone on 30th January 1908.

1.3.5.2.2.1.2.5.5  ~~  Eva May Loveland

Eva was born at Maidstone in 1883 (Maidstone 1883 June qtr Volume 2a Page 694). The 1891 census records that the school girl was living with her family at 137 Weeks Street, Maidstone. The 1901 census records that Eva was unmarried and she was living with her parents at 10 Brewer Street, Maidstone.

1.3.5.2.2.1.3  ~~  Frances Tupper

Frances was baptised at St James' church, East Malling on 26th July 1807. She married Shephard Fowler at East Malling on 22nd November 1829.  The ceremony was performed by the Rev'd Isaac Godmond and the witnesses were Thomas Tupper and Jane Fowler. Shepherd was baptised at St James' church, East Malling on 1st August 1802 the son of James and Elizabeth Fowler.

Shephard and Frances had at least three children – Amelia (1830), Ann (1831) and Henry (1833).  Frances was a witness at the wedding of her younger brother John at Maidstone in 1834. The 1841 census records that Shephard was an agricultural labourer. He and his wife and their three children were living at Lone Bains, East Malling. The 1851 census records that Shepherd was an agricultural labourer and he and his wife and their son were living at Lone Bains, East Malling.

The 1861 census records that Shepherd was working as an agricultural labourer and he and his wife were living at Lone Bains, East Malling. Lodging with the couple were their 29 year old daughter Ann Turrell and her son Henry Turrell. Shepherd died at Lunsford aged 64 years (Malling 1867 June qtr Volume 2a Page 248) and he was buried at East Malling on 22nd April 1867.

The 1871 census records that Frances was widowed and she was lodging with Thomas and Jane Turrell at New Hythe Lane, East Malling. The 1881 census records that Frances was living with her daughter and son in law at New Hythe Road, East Malling. Frances died at New Hythe 1889 aged 81 years (Malling 1889 March qtr Volume 2a Page 367). After a funeral at St James church, East Malling she was buried at Plumstead on 7th January 1889.

1.3.5.2.2.1.3.1  ~~  Amelia (Emily) Fowler

Amelia, also known as Emily, was baptised at St James' church, East Malling on 25th July 1830. The 1841 census records that Amelia was living with her parents at Lone Bains, East Malling. Emily was a witness at the wedding of her aunt Margaret Tupper in 1849.

The 1851 census records that Emily was living with her uncle and aunt (Philip and Margaret Cook) at East Malling.

1.3.5.2.2.1.3.2  ~~  Ann Fowler

Ann was baptised at St James' church, East Malling on 6th November 1831. The 1841 census records that Ann was living with her parents at Lone Bains, East Malling. Ann married James Turrell in the early 1850's; he was born at East Malling in 1831 and he was a seaman in the Royal Navy.

James and Ann had at least two children  – Mary (1854) and Henry (1856). The 1861 census records that Ann Turrell (born East Malling in 1831) was a sailors wife and she and her son were lodging with Shepherd and Frances Fowler (her parents?) at Lone Bains, East Malling.

The 1881 census records that James was a navy pensioner. He and his wife and his widowed mother in law were living at New Hythe Lane, East Malling. Ann Turrell is also recorded at her son's house at Canterbury at the same time. James died at New Hythe in October 1911 and he was buried at East Malling on 11th October 1911.

Ann followed her husband to the grave within a few weeks. She died at New Hythe in late November 1911 and she was buried at East Malling on 29th November 1911.

1.3.5.2.2.1.3.2.3  ~~  Mary Ann Turrell

Mary was baptised at St James' church, East Malling in 1854 (Malling 1854 September qtr Volume 2a Page 291). She is not recorded with her family in the 1861 census by which time she had probably died.

1.3.5.2.2.1.3.2.2  ~~  Henry Turrell

Henry was born at East Malling in 1856 and he was baptised at St James' church, East Malling on 24th February 1856. The 1861 census records that the school boy and his mother were lodging at his grandparents at New Hythe Lane, East Malling. Henry married Ellen Crippen in 1877 (Blean 1877 June qtr Volume 2a Page 1149); she was born at Canterbury in 1855.

Henry and Ellen had at least one child – James (1878). The 1881 census records that Henry was a bricklayer. He and his wife and their son were living at 4 St Johns Place, Northgate, Canterbury. Also staying with them was Henry's mother Ann. Ellen died at Canterbury in 1889 aged only 34 years (Canterbury 1889 March qtr Volume 2a Page 508).

Henry subsequently married his first cousin Emily Fowler in 1892 (Maidstone 1892 September qtr Volume 2a Page 1238); she was born at Birling in 1864, the daughter of Henry Shepherd Fowler and Rosetta Smith. The couple are not recorded in the 1891 English census.

Henry and Emily had at least six children – Ethel (1893), Alice (1894), Lily (1895), Harry (1896), Thomas (1898) and Emily (1902). The 1901 census records that Henry was a bricklayer and he and his wife and his five children were living at 61 Victoria Street, Maidstone.

1.3.5.2.2.1.3.2.2.1  ~~  James William Turrell

James was born at Canterbury in 1878 (Canterbury 1878 March qtr Volume 2a Page 756). The 1881 census records that the young boy was living with his family at 4 St Johns Place, Northgate, Canterbury. The 1901 census records that James was working as a bricklayer and he was living with his father and stepmother at 61 Victoria Street, Maidstone.

1.3.5.2.2.1.3.2.2.2  ~~  Ethel Turrell

Ethel was born at Maidstone in 1893 (Maidstone 1893 March qtr Volume 2a Page 754). The 1901 census records that the school girl was living with her family at 61 High Street, Maidstone.

1.3.5.2.2.1.3.2.2.3  ~~  Alice Turrell

Alice was born at Maidstone in 1894 (Maidstone 1894 June qtr Volume 2a Page 701). The 1901 census records that the school girl was living with her family at 61 High Street, Maidstone.

1.3.5.2.2.1.3.2.2.4  ~~  Lily Turrell

Lily was born at Maidstone in 1895 (Maidstone 1895 September qtr Volume 2a Page 748). Lily died later the same year (Maidstone 1895 December qtr Volume 2a Page 403).

1.3.5.2.2.1.3.2.2.5  ~~  Harry Turrell

Henry was born at Maidstone in 1896 (Maidstone 1896 December qtr Volume 2a Page 773). The 1901 census records that the young boy was living with his family at 61 High Street, Maidstone.

1.3.5.2.2.1.3.2.2.6  ~~  Thomas Turrell

Thomas was born at Maidstone in 1898 (Maidstone 1898 September qtr Volume 2a Page 783). The 1901 census records that the young boy was living with his family at 61 Victoria Street, Maidstone.

1.3.5.2.2.1.3.2.2.7  ~~  Emily Turrell

Emily was born at Maidstone in 1902 (Maidstone 1902 September qtr Volume 2a Page 865).

1.3.5.2.2.1.3.3  ~~  Henry Shepherd Fowler

Henry was born at Birling in about 1833 and he was baptised at St James' church, East Malling on 25th December 1833. The 1841 census records that Henry was living with his parents at Lone Bains, East Malling. The 1851 census records that Henry was an agricultural labourer and he was living with his parents at Lone Bains, East Malling.

Henry married Rosetta Smith at Birling on 19th February 1859 and the witnesses to the ceremony were Isaac Smith and Ann Turrell. Rosetta was born at Birling in about 1840, the daughter of Isaac and Harriett Smith. At the time of his marriage Henry was a labourer of East Malling and his father in law was a shoemaker of Birling.

Henry and Rosetta Fowler had at least thirteen children – Henry (1859), Isaac (1861), Harriett (1862), Emily (1864), Alice (1866), George (1868), William (1870), John (1872), Rosetta (1874), Alfred (1877), Bertha (1879), Agnes (1880) and Charles (1883). The 1861 census records that Henry was an agricultural labourer. He and his young and growing family were living with his wife's parents at Hamhill, Birling.

The 1871 census records that Henry was an agricultural servant and he and his wife and their five children were living at Hamill Street, Birling. The 1881 census records that Henry was employed as an agricultural labourer and he and his family were still living at Hamhill. Henry and his family were missed by the 1891 census enumerators.

The 1901 census records that Henry was a cattleman on a farm near Maidstone. Also living with Henry and Rosetta were their three unmarried sons and a grandson.

1.3.5.2.2.1.3.3.1  ~~  Henry Shepherd Fowler

Henry was born at Hamhill in 1859 (Malling 1859 December qtr Volume 2a Page 368) and he was baptised at All Saints' church, Birling on 2nd December 1859. The 1861 census records that the toddler was living with his parents and his maternal grandparents at Hamhill, Birling. Henry died aged 9 years and he was buried at Birling on 30th January 1869.

1.3.5.2.2.1.3.3.2  ~~  Isaac Walter Fowler

Isaac was baptised at All Saints' church, Birling on 25th September 1861 (Malling 1861 September qtr Volume 2a Page 372). Isaac died soon afterwards and he was buried at Birling on 13th October 1861.

1.3.5.2.2.1.3.3.3  ~~  Harriett Ann Fowler

Harriett was baptised at All Saints' church, Birling on 2nd November 1862 (Malling 1862 September qtr Volume 2a Page 378). The 1871 census records that the school girl was living with her family at Hamill Street, Birling. The 1881 census records that Harriett was employed as a cook by Henry and Flora Gray at 23 Buckingham Place Road, London. Henry Gray was a grocer.

1.3.5.2.2.1.3.3.4  ~~  Emily Fowler

Emily was baptised at All Saints' church, Birling on 7th August 1864 (Malling 1864 September qtr Volume 2a Page 407). The 1871 census records that the school girl was living with her family at Hamill Street, Birling. The 1881 census records that Emily was employed as a kitchenmaid by Sir John Holker at his home at 46 Devonshire Street, London.

Emily married her first cousin Henry Turrell in 1892 (Maidstone 1892 September qtr Volume 2a Page 1238); he was born at East Malling in 1856 the son of James Turrell and Ann Fowler. Henry and Emily had at least six children – Ethel (1893), Alice (1894), Lily (1895), Harry (1896), Thomas (1898) and Emily (1902).

The 1901 census records that Henry was a bricklayer and he and his wife and his five children were living at 61 Victoria Street, Maidstone.

1.3.5.2.2.1.3.3.5  ~~  Alice Fowler

Alice was baptised at All Saints' church, Birling on 8th July 1866. The 1871 census records that the school girl was living with her family at Hamill Street, Birling. The 1881 census records that Alice was employed as a nursemaid by Alfred and Ada Hoppe at their home at New Hithe Road, East Malling.

Alice married George Henry Irish at Birling on 12th June 1888 (Malling 1888 June qtr Volume 2a Page 882); he was born at Hinton, Somerset in 1860 the son of George Irish a carrier. The wedding ceremony was performed by Rev'd Charles C. Hawley the Rector Of Leybourne and the witnesses were Henry and Emily Fowler.

George and Alice had at least six children – Margaret (1889), John (1894), Elsie (1897), Hilda (1899), George (1901) and Annie (1906). George moved his family to London in the early 1890s before finally moving them to Hampshire near the south coast. This family is also not recorded in the 1891 English census.

The 1901 census records that George was employed as a butler and he and his wife and five of their children were living at 15 Palmerston Street, Romsey in Hampshire.

1.3.5.2.2.1.3.3.5.1  ~~  Margaret Alice Irish

Margaret was born at Birling in 1889 (Malling 1889 March qtr Volume 2a Page 629). The 1901 census records that the school girl was living with her family at 15 Palmerston Street, Romsey.

1.3.5.2.2.1.3.3.5.2  ~~  John Henry Irish

John was born at Pimlico in London in 1894 (St George Hanover Square 1894 December qtr Volume 1a Page 430). The 1901 census records that the school boy was living with his family at 15 Palmerston Street, Romsey.

1.3.5.2.2.1.3.3.5.3  ~~  Elsie Victoria Irish

Elsie was born at Romsey in 1897 (Romsey 1897 June qtr Volume 2c Page 94). The 1901 census records that the young girl was living with her family at 15 Palmerston Street, Romsey.

1.3.5.2.2.1.3.3.5.4  ~~  Hilda Maud Irish

Hilda was born at Romsey in 1899 (Romsey 1899 June qtr Volume 2c Page 112). The 1901 census records that the young girl was living with her family at 15 Palmerston Street, Romsey.

1.3.5.2.2.1.3.3.5.5  ~~  George Henry H. Irish

George was born at Romsey in January 1901 (Romsey 1901 March qtr Volume 2c Page 111). The 1901 census records that the 2 month old infant was living with his family at 15 Palmerston Street, Romsey.

1.3.5.2.2.1.3.3.5.6  ~~  Annie Louise Irish

Annie was born at Romsey in 1906 (Romsey 1906 June qtr Volume 2c Page 108).

1.3.5.2.2.1.3.3.6  ~~  George Fowler

George was baptised at All Saints' church, Birling on 14th June 1868. The 1871 census records that the young boy was living with his family at Hamill Street, Birling. The 1881 census records that George was a school boy and he was living with his family at Hamhill near Birling. The 1901 census records that George was an unmarried bricklayer living with his parents at Maidstone.

1.3.5.2.2.1.3.3.7  ~~  William Shepherd Fowler

William was born at Birling in 1870 and he was baptised at All Saints' church, Birling on 14th August 1870. The 1871 census records that the infant was living with his family at Hamill Street, Birling. The 1881 census records that William was a school boy and he was living with his family at Hamhill near Birling.

William married Maria Elizabeth Mitchell in 1890 (Malling 1890 March qtr Volume 2a Page 739); she was born at Aylesford in 1870. William and Maria had at least four children – Elsie (1890), Lilian (1892), Frederick (1897) and Gladys (1899). William does not seem to have settled anywhere as his four children were all born at different villages west of Maidstone.

At the time of the 1891 census William and Maria and their baby daughter were living at 28 Eccles Cottages, Aylesford. At the time of the 1901 census William was employed as a clay chalk quarryman and he and his wife and their four children were living at 9 Hellen Terrace, Halling.

1.3.5.2.2.1.3.3.7.1  ~~  Elsie Fowler

Elsie was born at Birling in 1890 (Malling 1890 June qtr Volume 2a Page 1007). The 1891 census records that the 11 month old infant girl was living with her parents at 28 Eccles Cottage, Aylesford. At the time of the 1901 census Elsie was living with her family at 9 Hellen Terrace, Halling.

1.3.5.2.2.1.3.3.7.2  ~~  Lilian Mavis Fowler

Lilian was born at Aylesford in 1892 (Malling 1892 March qtr Volume 2a Page 631). The 1901 census records that Lilian was a school girl and she was living with her family at 9 Hellen Terrace, Halling.

1.3.5.2.2.1.3.3.7.3  ~~  Frederick B. Fowler

Frederick was born at Snodland in 1897. The 1901 census records that Frederick was living with his parents at 9 Hellen Terrace, Halling.

1.3.5.2.2.1.3.3.7.4  ~~  Gladys Fowler

Gladys was born at Halling in 1899 (Strood 1899 March qtr Volume 2a Page 615). The 1901 census records that Gladys was living with her parents at 9 Hellen Terrace, Halling.

1.3.5.2.2.1.3.3.8  ~~  John Thomas Fowler

John was born at Birling in 1872 (Malling 1872 September qtr Volume 2a Page 502). He was baptised at All Saints' church, Birling on 13th October 1872. The 1881 census records that John was a school boy and he was living with his family at Hamhill near Birling. John married Mary Edwards (Malling 1890 December qtr Volume 2a Page 1094); she was born at Boxley in 1871.

The 1901 census records that John was employed as a carpenter. He and his wife were living at 12 Charles Street, Maidstone. Also living with the couple was their niece, 15 year old Beatrice Brook of Boxley.

1.3.5.2.2.1.3.3.9  ~~  Rosetta Fowler

Rosetta was born at Birling in late 1874 (Malling 1874 December qtr Volume 2a Page 513) and she was baptised at All Saints' church, Birling on 14th February 1875. The 1881 census records that Rosetta was a school girl and she was living with her family at Hamhill.

1.3.5.2.2.1.3.3.10  ~~  Alfred James Fowler

Alfred was born at Birling in 1877 and he was baptised at All Saints' church, Birling on 28th May 1877. The 1881 census records that he was living with his family at Hamhill near Birling. The 1901 census records that Alfred was an unmarried house painter and he was living with his parents at Maidstone.

1.3.5.2.2.1.3.3.11  ~~  Bertha Fowler

Bertha was born at Birling in early 1879. She died at Hamhill aged only 5 months and she was buried at Birling on 11th June 1879.

1.3.5.2.2.1.3.3.12  ~~  Agnes Ann Fowler

Agnes was born at Birling in 1880 and she was baptised at All Saints' church, Birling on 25th April 1880. The 1881 census records that the infant girl was living with her family at Hamhill. The 1901 census records that Agnes was working as a dressmaker and she was living with her aunt (Agnes Smith) and her grandmother at Brook Lane, Birling.

1.3.5.2.2.1.3.3.13  ~~  Charles Fowler

Charles was born at Birling in 1883 (Malling 1883 June qtr Volume 2a Page 587). He was baptised at All Saints' church, Birling on 24th June 1883. The 1901 census records that Charles was unmarried and he had been apprenticed as a house painter. He was living with his parents at Maidstone.

1.3.5.2.2.1.4  ~~  John Tupper

John was born at East Malling on 12th January 1810. He was baptised at St James' church, East Malling on 28th January 1810. John married Jane Chapman at All Saints' church, Maidstone on 16th February 1834. The ceremony was performed by the Rev'd Frederick Fitzherbert Haslewood and the witnesses were Henry King and Frances Fowler. Jane Chapman was born at East Malling in 1806.

After their marriage John and Jane moved back to Larkfield near East Malling. They had at least four children –  Fanny (1832), William (1834), Jane (1837) and John (1840). The 1841 census records that John was an agricultural labourer and he and his wife and their three young children were living at East Malling.

The 1851 census records that John was an agricultural labourer and he and his wife and their four children were living at East Malling. The 1861 census records that John was employed as an agricultural labourer. He and his wife and three of their children were living at Larkfield, East Malling.

Jane died at Larkfield aged 55 years. She was buried at East Malling on 12th October 1862. John died at Larkfield aged 54 years. He was buried at East Malling on 22nd September 1864.

1.3.5.2.2.1.4.1  ~~  Fanny Tupper

Fanny was born at Larkfield in about 1832. She is not recorded with her parents at East Malling in the 1841 census and she may have been staying with relatives. The 1851 census records that she was living with her parents at East Malling. The 1861 census records that Fanny was an unmarried dressmaker and she was living with her parents at Larkfield, East Malling.

1.3.5.2.2.1.4.2  ~~  William Tupper

William was born at Larkfield and he was baptised at St James' church, East Malling on 28th September 1834. The 1841 census records that the school boy was living with his family at East Malling. The 1851 census records that William was an agricultural labourer and he was living with his family at East Malling.

After the publication of the banns at St James' church, East Malling on 9th, 16th and 23rd November 1860, William married Ann Humphrey. She was born at Wateringbury in 1842 and she was the daughter of William and Mercy Humphrey.

William and Ann had at least seven children – Ellen (1861), William (1863), John (1864), Alfred (1866), Henry (1868), Herbert (1870) and Eliza (1872). The 1861 census records that William was employed as a farm labourer and he and his pregnant wife were living with her parents at Ditton Green, Ditton.

The 1871 census records that William was an agricultural labourer and he and his wife and three of their children (their eldest son was probably staying with relatives) were living at New Hythe Lane, East Malling. The 1881 census records that William was employed as a general labourer and he and his wife and their five surviving children were living at Larkfield Street, East Malling.

William died in 1882 aged 47 years (Malling 1882 June qtr Volume 2a Page 316). The 1901 census records that Ann was living with her daughter and son in law (Eliza and Henry King) at Larkfield, East Malling. Ann died in 1916 aged 73 years (Malling 1916 March qtr Volume 2a Page 1098).

1.3.5.2.2.1.4.2.1  ~~  Ellen Tupper

Ellen was born at Ditton in 1861 (Malling 1861 September qtr Volume 2a Page 366). The 1871 census records that Ellen was a school girl and she was living with her family at New Hythe Lane, East Malling. The 1881 census describes her as a 19 year old "former nurse".  Ellen was unmarried and she was living with her parents at Larkfield Street, East Malling.

Ellen may have married either Charles Henry Churcher or Thomas Matthews (Malling 1883 December qtr Volume 2a Page 1011).

1.3.5.2.2.1.4.2.2  ~~  William Tupper

William was born at Larkfield and he was baptised at St James' church, East Malling on 6th September 1863. He is not included with the rest of his family in the 1871 census. He probably died at Larkfield at the age of 2 years (Malling 1865 December qtr Volume 2a Page 262) and he was buried at East Malling on 31st December 1865.

1.3.5.2.2.1.4.2.3  ~~  John Tupper

John was born at Larkfield and he was baptised at St James' church, East Malling on 4th December 1864.  John is also not recorded with the rest of his family in the 1871 census and he was probably staying with relatives. The 1881 census records that he was employed as a general labourer and he was living with his family at Larkfield Street, East Malling.

After the publication of the banns at St James' church, East Malling on 29th November and 6th and 13th December 1885, John married Alice Pope (Malling 1885 December qtr Volume 2a Page 983). Alice was born at Leybourne in 1855 but at the time of her marriage she was living at Ryarsh.

John and Alice had at least three children – William (1887), Percy (1889) and Alfred (1892). The 1891 census records that John was employed as a general labourer. He and his young family were living at the upper end of Mill Street, East Malling.

The 1901 census records that John was employed as a bricklayer and he and his wife and their three children were living at East Malling. In 1918 John and Alice were living at 24 Champion Park, Lower Sydenham in London. Their youngest son was killed in action in France in August 1918.

1.3.5.2.2.1.4.2.3.1  ~~  William George Tupper

William was born at East Malling in 1887 (Malling 1887 March qtr Volume 2a Page 610). At the time of the 1891 census William was living with his family at Mill Street, East Malling. The 1901 census records that William was apprenticed as a draper and he was living at East Malling.

1.3.5.2.2.1.4.2.3.2  ~~  Percy Henry Tupper

Percy was born at Ditton in 1889 (Malling 1892 June qtr Volume 2a Page 615). At the time of the 1891 census the young boy was living with his family at Mill Street, East Malling. The 1901 census records that the school boy was living with his family at East Malling.

1.3.5.2.2.1.4.2.3.3  ~~  Alfred John M. Tupper

Alfred was born at East Malling in 1892 (Malling 1892 September qtr Volume 2a Page 6*5). The 1901 census records that the school boy was living with his family at East Malling. Alfred joined the British Army during World War One. He was posted to the 10th Battalion Essex Regiment as a Private and with service # 38560.

Alfred was killed in action on the Somme on 8th August 1918, the Schwartztag (Black Day) of the German Army. He was buried in Heath Cemetery, Harbonniere.

1.3.5.2.2.1.4.2.4  ~~  Alfred Tupper

Alfred was born at Ditton in 1866 and he was baptised at St James' church, East Malling on 2nd September 1866. The 1871 census records that Alfred was a school boy and he was living with his family at New Hythe Lane, East Malling. The 1881 census records that he was employed as a grocer's servant and he was living with his family at Larkfield Street, East Malling.

The 1891 census records that Alfred was employed as a butcher's assistant and he was living with his brother and grandmother (75 year old widow Mercy Humphrey of Yalding) at Larkfield Street, East Malling. Also visiting the house that night was Alfred's 12 year old cousin Fanny King.

The 1901 census records that Alfred was living alone and he was still employed as a butcher's assistant. Alfred married either Hannah Austen or Annie Kettle in 1902 (Malling 1902 March qtr Volume 2a Page 1065).

1.3.5.2.2.1.4.2.5  ~~  Henry Walter Tupper

Henry was baptised at St James' church, East Malling on 1st November 1868. He is not included with the rest of his family in the 1881 census. He probably died at Larkfield aged 14 months and he was buried at East Malling on 12th September 1869.

1.3.5.2.2.1.4.2.6  ~~  Herbert Tupper

Herbert was born at Larkfield in 1870 (Malling 1870 December qtr Volume 2a Page 473) and he was baptised at St James' church, East Malling on 6th November 1870.  The 1871 census records that the six month old infant was living with his family at New Hythe Lane, East Malling.

The 1881 census records that he was a school boy and he was living with his family at Larkfield Street, East Malling. The 1891 census records that Herbert was employed as a general labourer and he was living with his brother and grandmother at Larkfield Street, East Malling.

1.3.5.2.2.1.4.2.7  ~~  Eliza Alice Tupper

Eliza was born at New Hithe Lane, East Malling (Malling 1872 December qtr Volume 2a Page 495). She was baptised at St James' church, East Malling on 3rd November 1872. The 1881 census records that Eliza was a school girl and she was living with her family at Larkfield Street, East Malling. The 1891 census records that Eliza was employed as a domestic servant by Sarah Thornton at her home at High Street, East Malling.

Eliza Harry King in 1899 (Malling 1899 December qtr Volume 2a Page 1431); he was born at East Malling in 1871. The 1901 census records that Harry was a carpenter and he and his wife and her widowed mother (Ann Tupper) were living at Larkfield, East Malling.

1.3.5.2.2.1.4.3  ~~  Jane Tupper

Jane was born at Larkfield in 1836 and she was baptised at St James' church, East Malling on 21st May 1837. The 1841 census records that the school girl was living with her family at East Malling. The 1851 census records that Jane was living with her parents at East Malling. The 1861 census records that Jane was a 23 year old unmarried dressmaker and she was living with her family at Larkfield, East Malling.

Jane may have died at Aylesford aged 30 years and she was buried at East Malling on 13th January 1867 (this burial more probably relates to her cousin's wife who was the same age as her). Alternatively Jane may have married either Henry Brooks or Henry Bailey in 1867 (Malling 1867 December qtr Volume 2a Page 803).

1.3.5.2.2.1.4.4  ~~  John Tupper

John was born at Larkfield in 1840 (Malling 1840 June qtr Volume 5 Page 312) and he was baptised at St James' church, East Malling on 5th July 1840. The 1841 census records that the toddler was living with his family at East Malling. The 1851 census records that the school boy was living with his family at East Malling.

The 1861 census records that John was an unmarried agricultural labourer. He was living with his parents at Larkfield, East Malling. After the publication of the banns at St James' church, East Malling on 26th November and 3rd and 10th December 1865, John married Mary Ann Seal. She was born at Offham in about 1843 and at the time of her marriage Mary was living at Seal.

The 1881 census records that John and Mary were agricultural labourers and they lived on Cob Down Farm at Ditton. The 1891 census records that John was employed as a cement labourer. He and his wife were living alone at Newhithe Lane, East Malling. They do not appear to have had any surviving children. The 1901 census records that John was employed as an agricultural labourer at East Malling.

Mary died at Larkfield in 1909 aged 66 years and she was buried at East Malling on 18th September 1909. John died at Larkfield in 1916 aged 76 years (Malling 1916 June qtr Volume 2a Page 904). He was buried at East Malling on 21st June 1916.

1.3.5.2.2.1.5  ~~  Sarah Tupper

Sarah was born at Larkfield and she was baptised at St James' church, East Malling on 8th October 1815. She married Henry King at East Malling on 9th November 1834. The witnesses to their wedding were Frances King and John Tupper. Henry King was born at Teston in 1813. Henry was a witness at the wedding of his prospective brother in law John Tupper at Maidstone in February 1834.

Henry and Sarah had at least eleven children – Frances (1837), Henry (1838), Thomas (1840), Susannah (1842), Mary (1845), Sarah (1847), Emily (1849), George (1851), James (1853), William (1854) and Alice (1857). The parish register in 1837 records that Henry was a farmer of Larkfield.

The 1841 census records that Henry was an agricultural labourer and he and his wife and their two children were living at Larkfield, East Malling. The 1851 census records that Henry was a farm labourer and he and his wife and their five children were living at Kiln Barn Cottage, Ditton.

The 1861 census records that Henry was employed as an agricultural labourer. He and his wife and eight of their children were living at Newhithe Lane, East Malling. Henry died in 1870 aged 56 years (Malling 1870 September qtr Volume 2a Page 295).

The 1871 census records that Sarah was widowed and she was working as a housekeeper. She and three of her children and two grandchildren were living at New Hythe Lane, East Malling. Sarah died at Larkfield in 1881 aged 65 years (Malling 1881 March qtr Volume 2a Page 341). She was buried at East Malling on 2nd February 1881.

1.3.5.2.2.1.5.1  ~~  Frances Ann King

Frances was born at Larkfield and she was baptised at St James' church, East Malling on 19th February 1837. Frances died at New Hithe Lane aged about 2 months and she was buried at East Malling on 16th April 1837.

1.3.5.2.2.1.5.2  ~~  Henry King

Henry was born at Larkfield in 1838 (Malling 1838 March qtr Volume 5 Page 309) and he was baptised at St James' church, East Malling on 11th March 1838. The 1841 census records that the young boy was living with his family at Larkfield, East Malling.

The 1851 census records that the school boy was living with his family at Kiln Barn Cottage, Ditton. The 1861 census records that Henry was an unmarried agricultural labourer. He was living with his very large family at New Hithe Lane, East Malling.

Henry married Ann Mitchell; she was born at Ditton in about 1836 and she had a son from a previous relationship – Thomas H. Mitchell (1856). Henry and Ann had at least eleven children, including two sets of twins  – Henry (1862), George (1865), Ernest (1867), Elizabeth and Emma (1869), Lewis (1870), Adelaide (1871), Ada (1873), twins Amy and Alice (1874) and Arthur (1877).

As most of their children survived infancy it must have been a struggle for Henry to feed his numerous brood. As was often the case in those days he allowed his childless cousins, William and Betsy Alchin, to adopt his younger daughter Ada. The 1871 census records that Henry was an unemployed labourer and he and his growing family were living near his widowed mother at New Hythe Lane, East Malling.

The 1881 census records that Henry and his eldest sons were employed as grave-diggers. Henry and his wife and eight of their surviving children were living at Church Road, East Malling. The 1891 census records that Henry was employed as a general labourer. He and his wife, their youngest son Arthur, and their 5 year old grandson Henry King were living at Newhithe Lane, East Malling.

The 1901 census records that Henry was working as a builder's carter and he and his wife and their unmarried son Lewis were living at 59 Tennyson Road, Gillingham.

1.3.5.2.2.1.5.2.1  ~~  Henry King.

Henry was born at Larkfield in 1862 (Malling 1862 December qtr Volume 2a Page 391). He was baptised at St James' church, East Malling on 4th January 1863. The 1871 census records that Henry was a school boy and he was living with his family at New Hythe Lane, East Malling.

The 1881 census records that Henry was unmarried, he was employed as a cemetery labourer (grave-digger) and he lived with his family at Church Road, East Malling. Henry married Louisa or Jessie; according to the 1891 census her name was Louisa Murray and she was born at Aylesford in 1853 and the 1901 census says that her name was Jessie and she was born in Scotland in 1853. Whichever name is correct she was considerably older than her husband.

Henry and Louisa or Jessie had at least four children – Henry (1885), Mabel (1887), Ethel (1888) and George (1890). The 1891 census records that Henry was a carman and he and his wife and three of their children (plus Louisa's two children from a previous marriage) were living at 3 Stanley Terrace, Canterbury Road, Gillingham.

The 1901 census records that Henry was employed as a town carman. He and his family were living at 64 Chatham Hill Road, Chatham.

Henry was born at Ditton in 1885. The 1891 census records that Henry was a school boy and he was living with his paternal grandparents at New Hithe Lane, East Malling. The 1901 census records that Henry was employed as a carman and he was living with his parents at 60 Chatham Hill Road, Chatham.

George was born at Eastbourne in 1890. The 1891 census records that the 8 month old infant was living with his family at 3 Stanley Terrace, Canterbury Road, Gillingham. He is not recorded with the rest of his family in the 1901 census.

George was born at Larkfield and he was baptised at St James' church, East Malling on 22nd January 1865. The 1871 census records that George was a school boy and he was living with his widowed grandmother at New Hythe Road, East Malling. The 1881 census records that George was employed as a cemetery labourer (grave-digger) and he lived with his parents at Church Road, East Malling.

1.3.5.2.2.1.5.2.3  ~~  Ernest King

Ernest was born at Larkfield in 1867 and he was baptised at St James' church, East Malling on 2nd June 1867. The 1871 census records that the young boy was living with his family at New Hythe Lane, East Malling. The 1881 census records that he was employed as an errand boy and he was living with his family at Church Road, East Malling.

At the time of his marriage, Ernest was a labourer of Larkfield. After the publication of the banns at St James' church, East Malling on 14th, 21st and 28th July 1889, Ernest married Ada Crittenden at Aylesford on 3rd August 1889 (Malling 1889 September qtr Volume 2a Page 979). The witnesses to the ceremony were Emily King and Henry Crittenden. Ada was born at East Malling in 1867.

Ernest and Ada had at least four children – Lily (1890), Amy (1892), Ernest (1894) and Ada (1898). The 1891 census records that Ernest was employed as a cement labourer. He and his wife and their infant daughter were living at Newhithe Lane, East Malling. Visiting the family that night was 12 year old Rose Ridley of East Malling.

At sometime before 1894 Ernest moved his family to London and settled in the then outer suburb of Croydon. The 1901 census records that Ernest was employed as a domestic gardener and he and his young family were living at 18 Stroud Green Road, Croydon.

Lily was born at Larkfield in 1890 (Malling 1890 June qtr Volume 2a Page 606) and she was baptised at St James' church, East Malling on 6th July 1890. At the time of the census the following year the 11 month old infant girl was living with her parents at Newhithe Lane, East Malling. The 1901 census records that the schoolgirl was living with her family at 18 Stroud Green Road, Croydon.

Amy was born at Larkfield on 26th March 1892 (Malling 1892 June qtr Volume 2a Page 635). She was baptised at St James' church , East Malling on 24th April 1892. The 1901 census records that the schoolgirl was living with her family at 18 Stroud Green Road, Croydon.

Ernest was born at Croydon in about 1894. The 1901 census records that the schoolboy was living with his family at 18 Stroud Green Road, Croydon.

Ada was born at Croydon in about 1898. The 1901 census records that Ada was living with her family at 18 Stroud Green Road, Croydon.

Elizabeth and her twin sister Emma were born at Larkfield and they were baptised at St James' church, East Malling on 29th January 1869. Neither child survived for very long. Elizabeth died at Larkfield in February 1869 aged about 2 weeks (Malling 1869 March qtr Volume 2a Page 313). She was buried at East Malling on 14th February 1869.

Emma and her twin sister Elizabeth were born at Larkfield and they were baptised at St James' church, East Malling on 29th January 1869. Emma died at Larkfield in February 1869 aged 3 days (Malling 1869 March qtr Volume 2a Page 312) and she was buried at East Malling on 6th February 1869.

Lewis was born at Larkfield in 1870 and he was baptised at St James' church, East Malling on 28th March 1870 (Malling 1870 March qtr Volume 2a Page 532).  The 1871 census records that the toddler was living with his family at New Hythe Lane, East Malling.

The 1881 census records that Lewis was a school boy and he was living with his family at Church Road, East Malling.

The 1901 census records that Lewis was working as a builder's carter. He was unmarried and he was living with his elderly parents at 59 Tennyson Road, Gillingham.

1.3.5.2.2.1.5.2.7  ~~  Adelaide Annie King

Adelaide was born at Larkfield in 1871 (Malling 1871 June qtr Volume 2a Page 481) and she was probably born soon after the 1871 census. She was baptised at St James' church, East Malling on 6th August 1871. The 1881 census records that Adelaide was a school girl and she was living with her family at Church Road, East Malling.

Adelaide married Charles N. Read; he was born at Tonbridge in 1871. Charles and Adelaide had at least two children – Jesse (1896) and Lewis (1897). The 1901 census records that Charles worked as a builder's foreman and he and his wife and their two children were living at 119 Garden Road, Strood. Also living with the family was Amy King the younger sister of Adelaide.

Jesse was born at Strood in 1896 (Strood 1896 March qtr Volume 2a Page 554). The 1901 census records that the young boy was living with his family at 119 Garden Road, Strood.
