Volume 4 The Alchins of Linton by Steve Green Part 4 Alchins of Linton, Kent; Montcalm, Michigan; and Dalton, NSW ...continued... 1.4.4.6.4.3 ~~ William Alchin William was born at Jerrawa Creek on 4th July 1856 (NSW 1856/8529). He was still alive in 1869 and it is quite possible that he went to Queensland with his younger brother James. 1.4.4.6.4.4 ~~ Maria Alchin Maria was born at Jerrawa Creek on 21st April 1858 (NSW 1858/13694). She married Thomas Edgerton at Yass on 9th July 1874 (NSW 1874/4281) when she was only 16 years old. Thomas was born at Mundoonan on 19th July 1845 and he was baptised at Boorowa on 1st October 1847, the son of Joseph Edgerton and Mary Ann Reed. Thomas and Maria had at least fourteen children William (1875), Lydia (1876), Maria (1878), Isabella (1880), Thomas (1881), John (1884), Mary (1886), Elijah (1888), Amos (1891), twins Frederick and David (1894), Lesley (1897) and a second set of twins Cecil and Albert (1900). Maria died on 19th July 1919 aged 61 years. Thomas died at Boorowa on 4th November 1920 aged 73 years. Thomas and Maria are buried in the Rye Park cemetery. 1.4.4.6.4.4.1 ~~ William Edgerton William was born near Yass on 9th March 1875 (NSW 1875/22028). He married Matilda Perceval at Yass on 26th April 1905 (NSW 1905/5690); she was born at Burrowa River in 1883. William and Matilda had at least four children Alan (1906), Myrtle (1907), Henrietta (1910) and John (1915). The 1906 electoral roll for the seat of Werriwa records that William was employed as a carrier. He and Matilda were living at Pudman Creek near Rye Park. William died at Boorowa on 21st September 1939 aged 64 years (NSW 1939/20321). Matilda died at Rye Park on 15th October 1946 aged 63 years. They are buried in the Rye Park cemetery. 1.4.4.6.4.4.1.1 ~~ Alan E. Edgerton Alan was born at Boorowa in 1906 (NSW 1906/11879). He married Maria Boulding at Boorowa in 1933 (NSW 1933/1322); she was born at Yass in 1908. 1.4.4.6.4.4.1.2 ~~ Myrtle Alma Edgerton Myrtle was born at Boorowa in 1907 (NSW 1907/33682). She never married. Myrtle died on 19th December 1931 aged only 24 years. She is buried in Rye Park cemetery. 1.4.4.6.4.4.1.3 ~~ Henrietta Mary Edgerton Henrietta was born at Boorowa in 1910 (NSW 1910/2168). She married William George Hazell at Boorowa in 1930 (NSW 1930/16269). William was her cousin and he was born at Broadway, Dalton on 6th September 1905 (NSW 1905/33802). He was the son of Thomas Hazel and Mary Jane Alchin. William and Mary had five children Athol, Gervaise, Elaine, Eileen and Margaret. William died in 1978 aged about 73 years. Mary died in 1987 aged 81 years. 1.4.4.6.4.4.1.4 ~~ John Owen Edgerton John was born at Rye Park on 26th November 1915 (NSW 1915/43348). He enlisted in the Army at Paddington on 16th January 1942 (NX84197). John was discharged as a Private from the 5th Training Battalion on 17th April 1942. John married Joyce Loretta; her surname is unknown at this stage. John ran a property at Jugiong called "Athlone". John died on 5th May 1983 aged 67 years and he is buried in Rye Park cemetery. 1.4.4.6.4.4.2 ~~ Lydia Priscilla Edgerton Lydia was born at Yass on 19th April 1876 (NSW 1876/22743). Lydia married Silas John Noakes at Boorowa on 3rd June 1897 (NSW 1897/2986). Silas was born at Binalong in 1866 and he was the son of Silas Noakes and Julia Moore who married at Goulburn in 1852. Silas and Lydia had at least twelve children Florence (1897), Lyle (1899), Edith (1900), Beatrice (1902), Roland (1903), Mabel (1906), Clarence (1907), Herbert (1909), Eric (1911), Alister (1913), Amy (1915) and Joyce (1918). The children were all born at Boorowa. The 1906 electoral roll for the seat of Werriwa (Polling booth at Rye Park) records that Silas was a farmer of Wallah Flat and Lydia was carrying out domestic duties at Spring Valley. Silas died on 8th May 1948 aged 81 years and Lydia on 19th July 1952 aged 76 years. They are buried alongside each other in Rye Park cemetery. 1.4.4.6.4.4.2.1 ~~ Florence Priscilla Noakes Florence was born at Boorowa in 1897 (NSW 1897/30068) and she was baptised at Boorowa on 5th December 1897. Florence married Archibald Thornton Perceval at Boorowa in 1919 (NSW 1919/3281). Archibald was born at Boorowa on 12th March 1895 (NSW 1895/11617) and he was the son of John Perceval and Elizabeth Mason. Archibald enlisted in the Army at Glen Davis on 10th July 1943. He was discharged as a Private from the 23rd Volunteer Defence Corps on 30th September 1945. Florence died at Lithgow in 1966 aged 69 years. Archibald died in 1975 aged 80 years. 1.4.4.6.4.4.2.2 ~~ Lyle Stanley Noakes Lyle was born at Boorowa in 1899 (NSW 1899/2006). He married Marjorie Gwendoline Fowler Gee at Boorowa on 11th August 1919 (NSW 1919/10207). 1.4.4.6.4.4.2.3 ~~ Edith Mary Noakes Edith was born at Boorowa in 1900 (NSW 1900/20693) and she was baptised at Boorowa on 2nd December 1900. Edith married George Percival at Grenfell in 1919 (NSW 1919/2153). George was born at Queanbeyan in 1890 (NSW 1890/29102) and he was the son of George and Mary Percival. 1.4.4.6.4.4.2.4 ~~ Beatrice Lavinia Maud Noakes Beatrice was born at Boorowa in 1902 (NSW 1902/10964) and she was baptised at Boorowa on 5th October 1902. Beatrice married Samuel Asia Bush at Boorowa on 10th March 1926 (NSW 1926/3236). Samuel was born at Jerrawa Creek on 5th November 1903 (NSW 1903/30539) and he was the son of Henry Bush and Emma Pitches. Samuel and Beatrice had at least three children Cedric, John and Neville. Beatrice died on 3rd June 1979 aged 77 years. Samuel died at Dalton on 7th July 1980 aged 76 years. 1.4.4.6.4.4.2.5 ~~ Roland John Noakes Roland was born at Rye Park on 30th October 1903 (NSW 1903/28910). He married Edith A. Holgate at Boorowa in 1928 (NSW 1928/823). Edith was born at Boorowa in 1905 (NSW 1905/21592) and she was the daughter of Albert Holgate and Edith M. Banks. Roland enlisted in the Army (N401020) during World War II and he served as a part-time soldier in the 27th Volunteer Defence Corps. 1.4.4.6.4.4.2.6 ~~ Mabel Emily Noakes Mabel was born at Boorowa in 1906 (NSW 1906/2023). She married Cecil Clive Boulding at Boorowa in 1928 (NSW 1928/7246). Cecil was born at Boorowa in 1900 (NSW 1900/20703) and he was the son of Charles Boulding and Maria J. Wells. Cecil died on 21st May 1978 aged 77 years. Mabel died on 23rd November 1990 aged 84 years. They are buried in Rye Park Methodist cemetery. 1.4.4.6.4.4.2.7 ~~ Clarence Raymond Noakes Clarence was born at Boorowa on 20th August 1907 (NSW 1907/33679) and he was baptised at Boorowa on 1st December 1907. He enlisted in the Army at Young on 21st December 1942 (N441567). Clarence married Violet L. Banks at Boorowa in 1943. He was discharged as a Private from the 27th Volunteer Defence Corps on 17th September 1945. 1.4.4.6.4.4.2.8 ~~ Herbert Thomas Roy Noakes Herbert was born at Boorowa in 1909 (NSW 1909/34824). He married Betty and they had three children Amanda, Peter and Christopher. Herbert died on 28th December 1984 aged 74 years. He is buried in Rye Park Uniting Church cemetery. 1.4.4.6.4.4.2.9 ~~ Eric William Noakes Eric was born at Boorowa in 1911 (NSW 1911/25974) and he was baptised at Boorowa on 12th February 1912. Eric married Vera J. Wales at Boorowa in 1934 (NSW 1934/6137); Vera was born at Burrowa in 1916. Eric died at Bevandale on 1st September 1995 aged 84 years. 1.4.4.6.4.4.2.10 ~~ Alister David Noakes Alister was born at Rye Park on 16th October 1913 (NSW 1913/43584) and he was baptised at Boorowa on 14th March 1914. He enlisted in the Army at Goulburn on 17th July 1940 (NX60354) and he served with the 9th Division in the Western Desert and Pacific campaigns. Alister was discharged as a Private from the 2/17th Infantry Battalion on 16th November 1945. 1.4.4.6.4.4.2.1 ~~ Amy Eva Noakes Amy was born at Boorowa in 1915 (NSW 1915/43328). She married Stephen Charles Henry Banks at Boorowa in 1936 (NSW 1936/3944). Stephen was born at Rye Park on 9th April 1908. He enlisted in the Army at Yass on 11th March 1942. He was discharged as a Lance Corporal from the 18th Volunteer Defence Corps on 25th September 1945. 1.4.4.6.4.4.2.12 ~~ Joyce H. Noakes Joyce was born at Boorowa in 1918 (NSW 1918/43328). 1.4.4.6.4.4.3 ~~ Maria Jemima Edgerton Maria was born at Yass on 20th March 1878 (NSW 1878/24924). Maria married Josiah Southwell at Boorowa in 1897 (NSW 1897/827). Josiah was born at Yass in 1875, the son of Thomas Southwell and Eliza Roffe who married at Yass in 1857. Josiah and Maria had at least five children Cecil (1898), Cedric (1905), David (1907), Leslie (1911) and Emmaline. The 1906 electoral roll for the seat of Werriwa records that Josiah was a "dealer" and he and Maria were residents of Rye Park. Josiah died on 15th July 1954 aged 79 years and Maria on 3rd November 1969 aged 91 years. They are buried in the Boorowa Methodist cemetery. 1.4.4.6.4.4.3.1 ~~ Cecil Owen Thomas R. Southwell Cecil was born at Gunning on 5th February 1898 (NSW 1898/3664). He married firstly Ruby I. Gorham at Boorowa on 10th November 1919 (NSW 1919/14419); she was born at Ruby on 25th July 1900. Ruby died on 30th March 1923 aged 22 years. Cecil married secondly May Barr at Grenfell in 1925 (NSW 1925/6370). Cecil enlisted in the Army at Cowra on 3rd May 1942. He was discharged as a Private from the 27th Volunteer Defence Corps on 17th September 1945. Cecil married for a third time to Elsie Ridley. 1.4.4.6.4.4.3.2 ~~ Cedric W.S.R. Southwell Cedric was born at Yass in 1905 (NSW 1905/19402). He married Ada L. Masters at Murrumburrah in 1925 (NSW 1925/2889); she was born at Gunning in 1902. Cedric and Ada had at least ten children Horace, Daphne, Elsie, Dulcie, Marjorie, Dorothy, Sterling, Violet, Ivy and Stanley. The couple later lived at Hall. 1.4.4.6.4.4.3.3 ~~ David H. Southwell David was born at Yass in 1907 (NSW 1907/42316). He died there in the same year (NSW 1907/16413). 1.4.4.6.4.4.3.4 ~~ Leslie Albert Gordon Southwell Leslie was born at Boorowa on 14th January 1911 (NSW 1911/2300). He married Florence Cummings at Boorowa in 1939 (NSW 1939/22982). Leslie enlisted in the Volunteer Defence Corps at Boorowa on 8th January 1942. He was discharged as a Private from the 18th Battalion VDC on 24th December 1943. Leslie and Florence had at least five children Robert, Thomas, Margaret, Herbert and George. 1.4.4.6.4.4.3.5 ~~ Emmaline Bertha Southwell Emmaline died at Burwood in 1942. 1.4.4.6.4.4.4 ~~ Isabella Priscilla May Edgerton Isabella was born at Rye Park on 22nd December 1879. She married William Wainwright Perks at Yass on 22nd February 1899 (NSW 1899/2156). William was the son of Josiah and Eliza Perks and he was born at Binalong in 1872. William and Isabella had at least seven children Josiah (1899), Leslie (1901), Esther (1903), Thomas (1906), John (1908), George (1913) and Florence (1916). William died aged 47 years at Young on 14th July 1919, probably as a result of the Spanish Flu pandemic. Isabella died aged 43 years on 5th November 1923. They are buried together in Young cemetery. 1.4.4.6.4.4.4.1 ~~ Josiah William Perks Josiah, who later called himself Joseph, was born at Rye Park on 3rd July 1899 (NSW 1899/19726). He enlisted in the Army at Young on 13th January 1942 (N385804). He was discharged as a Private from the Cowra Prisoner of War Camp on 15th March 1946. Joseph died on 25th September 1972 aged 73 years and he is buried in Young cemetery. 1.4.4.6.4.4.4.2 ~~ Leslie Clarence Perks Leslie was born at Boorowa in 1901 (NSW 1901/11452). 1.4.4.6.4.4.4.3 ~~ Esther R.Maude Perks Esther was born at Young in 1903 (NSW 1903/17907). She never married and it is likely that she was required to bring up her brothers and sisters after the early death of their parents. Esther died on 22nd April 1977 aged 73 years and she is buried in the Young cemetery. 1.4.4.6.4.4.4.4 ~~ Thomas H. Perks Thomas was born at Young on 2nd March 1906 (NSW 1906/11876). He enlisted in the Army at Cowra on 28th February 1945 (NX180274). He had probably previously been a guard at the Prisoner of War camp there. Thomas was discharged from the Army as a Private from the Lae Prisoner of War camp on 18th March 1946. Thomas died on 19th May 1981 aged 75 years and he is buried in the Young cemetery. 1.4.4.6.4.4.4.5 ~~ John R. Perks John was born at Young in 1908 (NSW 1908/20773). He married Stella M. Harcombe at Young in 1927 (NSW 1927/13408); she was born at Young in 1909. 1.4.4.6.4.4.4.6 ~~ George Wainwright Perks George was born at Young on 4th January 1913 (NSW 1913/13210). He married Joan Emily Rudd at Yass in 1942 (NSW 1942/34532) and they settled at Quandialla. George enlisted in the Army at Paddington on 15th January 1942. He was discharged as a Lance Corporal from the 2/3rd Machine Gun Battalion on 4th January 1946. 1.4.4.6.4.4.4.7 ~~ Florence Lillian Perks Florence was born at Young in 1916 (NSW 1916/11977). She married Herbert Forbes Noel Milne at Boorowa in 1942 (NSW 1942/3702); he was born at Rylstone in 1917. 1.4.4.6.4.4.5 ~~ Thomas Edgerton Thomas was born at Rye Park on 9th September 1881 (NSW 1881/11826). He married Mary Comerford on 11th June 1910. Thomas and Mary had at least three children twins Albert and Cedric (1912) and Edgar (1915). Thomas died at West Wyalong on 10th August 1955 aged 73 years. 1.4.4.6.4.4.5.1 ~~ Albert J. Edgerton Albert and his twin brother Cedric were born at West Wyalong in 1912. Albert died there the same year. 1.4.4.6.4.4.5.2 ~~ Cedric Eric Edgerton Cedric and his twin brother Alfred were born at West Wyalong in 1912. He married Gladys T. Gardiner in 1935. 1.4.4.6.4.4.5.3 ~~ Edgar Roy Edgerton Edgar was born at West Wyalong in 1915. He married Agnes Linda Morgan in 1941. 1.4.4.6.4.4.6 ~~ John Ernest Edgerton John was born at Rye Park on 11th December 1884 (NSW 1884/14696). He married Emily A. Hayes in 1907. She must have died as John Subsequently married Julia Theresa Flanagan in 1910; she was born at Condobolin in 1891. John and Julia had at least four children Eric (c1910), John (1912), Ernest (1914) and Enid (1917). 1.4.4.6.4.4.6.1 ~~ Eric Edgerton Eric was probably born in about 1910. 1.4.4.6.4.4.6.2 ~~ John Patrick Edgerton John was born at Grenfell in 1912. He married Evelyn May Theresa Bushell in 1937. John died at Sydney in 1943 aged only 31 years. 1.4.4.6.4.4.6.3 ~~ Ernest D. Edgerton Ernest was born at Grenfell in 1914. He married Daphne M. Ayres in 1935; she was born at Stdney in 1916. 1.4.4.6.4.4.6.4 ~~ Enid Julia Marie Edgerton Enid was born at Grenfell in 1917. She married Herbert Roy Foulstone in 1940. Enid died at Newtown in 1943 aged only 26 years. 1.4.4.6.4.4.7 ~~ Mary Ann Lavinia Edgerton Mary was born at Rye Park on 6th May 1886 (NSW 1886/16070). She married William James Neville at Boorowa on 1st February 1905 (NSW 1905/961); he was born at Liverpool on 3rd February 1873. William and Mary had at least eight children Raymond (1905), Edgar (1906), Eileen (1909), Clarence (1912), Leslie (1915), Joan, Jean and Colin. William died on 2nd January 1961 aged 88 years and Mary on 24th January 1968 aged 82 years. They are buried in the Forbes Church of England cemetery. 1.4.4.6.4.4.7.1 ~~ Raymond Neville Raymond was born at Forbes on 27th July 1905. He married Daisy Jean Wilcox at Forbes on 2nd January 1940; she was born at Canowindra on 9th March 1915. Raymond enlisted in the Volunteer Defence Corps at Forbes on 21st April 1942. He was discharged as a Private from the 27th Battalion VDC on 30th November 1943. Raymond and Daisy had at least four children Gail, Ross, Pamela and Gary.Raymond died on 19th April 1987 aged 81 years and he is buried in the Forbes Lawn cemetery. 1.4.4.6.4.4.7.2 ~~ Edgar William Neville Edgar was born at Forbes in 1906. He died at Forbes on 22nd September 1935 aged 28 years. Edgar is buried in the Forbes Church of England cemetery. 1.4.4.6.4.4.7.3 ~~ Eileen Muriel Neville Eileen was born at Forbes on 29th June 1909. She married Sidney James Anderson at Forbes on 9th March 1938; he was born at Wagga Wagga on 19th April 1904. Sidney and Eileen had at least three children John, Barry and Patricia. Eileen died at Forbes on 1st August 1970 aged 61 years and Sidney died on 29th August 1983 aged 79 years. They are both buried in the Forbes Church of England cemetery. 1.4.4.6.4.4.7.4 ~~ Clarence Neville Clarence was born at Grenfell on 27th July 1912. He enlisted in the Militia at Grenfell on 11th September 1941. Clarence married Violet Isabel Boneham at Forbes in 1942. He was discharged from the 56th Battalion as a Private on 14th March 1942. Clarence married Violet Isabel Boneham (nee Harris) in 1942; she was born at Grenfell on 8th May 1908. Clarence and Violet had at least two children Robyn and Warwick. Clarence died at Southport, Queensland on 27th October 1980 aged 68 years. 1.4.4.6.4.4.7.5 ~~ Leslie Herbert Neville Leslie was born at Grenfell on 10th November 1915. He enlisted in the Army at Forbes on 21st November 1941. He was discharged as a Sapper from the RAE training centre on 28th February 1945. Leslie married Daphne Ethel Robb. Leslie and Daphne had at least four children Leslie, Roslyn, Robert and Brett. Daphne died at Forbes on 5th July 1965. Leslie died on 14th August 1967 aged 51 years. He is buried in the Forbes Church of England cemetery. 1.4.4.6.4.4.8 ~~ Elijah J. Edgerton Elijah was born at Rye Park on 4th September 1888 (NSW 1888/16891). He married Mary Jane Goodwin in 1914; she was born at Inverell in 1890. Elijah and Mary had at least two children Patricia (1914) and Kathleen (1916). Elijah died at West Wyalong on 12th June 1957 aged 68 years. 1.4.4.6.4.4.8.1 ~~ Patricia A. Edgerton Patricia was born at West Wyalong in 1914. 1.4.4.6.4.4.8.2 ~~ Kathleen Sheila Edgerton Kathleen was born at West Wyalong in 1916. She married Patrick Joseph Kennedy in 1941. 1.4.4.6.4.4.9 ~~ Amos Robert Edgerton Amos, sometimes known as Robert, was born at Rye Park on 10th July 1891 (NSW 1891/9067). He married Ada Ethel May Gorham in 1913; she was born at Boorowa on 23rd November 1893. Robert and Ada had at least three children Doxia (1914), Ulric (1916) and Leila. Robert died at North Sydney on 3rd March 1957 aged 65 years. 1.4.4.6.4.4.9.1 ~~ Doxia B. Edgerton Doxia was born at Boorowa in 1914. She died at Boorowa in 1933 aged only 19 years. 1.4.4.6.4.4.9.2 ~~ Ulric G. Edgerton Ulric was born at Boorowa in 1916. 1.4.4.6.4.4.9.3 ~~ Leila Eudora Edgerton Leila was probably born at Boorowa around 1920. She married Robert Boris Bolot in 1942. 1.4.4.6.4.4.10 ~~ Frederick Isaac Clarence Edgerton Frederick and his twin brother David were born at Rye Park on 20th August 1894 (NSW 1894/8764). He was baptised at Boorowa on 28th November 1894. He married Charlotte Matilda Gorham on 19th April 1916; she was born at Boorowa on 14th June 1893. Frederick and Charlotte had at least ten children Colville (1918), Elaine (1920), Lester, Merle, Kenneth, Keith, Douglas, Dawn, John and Jill. Charlotte died at Young on 20th September 1958 aged 65 years. Frederick died at Young on 13th February 1970 aged 75 years. 1.4.4.6.4.4.10.1 ~~ Colville Clarence Edgerton Colville was born at Boorowa on 13th June 1918. He married Melba Sinclair on 20th March 1946; she was born on 1st March 1926. Colville and Melba had at least eight children Graeme, Robyn, Tony, Geoffrey, Neale, Peter, Mark and Della. Colville died on 6th February 1986 aged 67 years. 1.4.4.6.4.4.10.2 ~~ Elaine Muriel Edgerton Elaine was born on 30th August 1920. She married Christopher Hall in February 1940; he was born on 25th December 1918. Christopher and Elaine had at least six children Judy, Anne, Maree, James, Christine and Victor. Elaine died on 30th birthday on 30th August 1950. Christopher died on 9th October 1986 aged 67 years. 1.4.4.6.4.4.11 ~~ David Samuel Herbert Edgerton David and his twin brother Frederick were born at Rye Park on probably 20th August 1894 (NSW 1894/8765). He was baptised at Boorowa on 29th December 1894. David married Mary Ann Gorham; she was born at Boorowa oon 5th November 1881. David and Mary had at least two children David (1924) and Jean. David enlisted in the Army at Goulburn on 24th August 1940 giving a false date of birth of 1900 (NX60698). He was discharged from a training camp on 23rd October 1940. At the time of his enlistment David was living at Quamby. 1.4.4.6.4.4.11.1 ~~ David Sterling Edgerton David was born at Young on 18th August 1924. He enlisted in the Army at Bathurst on 23rd July 1943 (NX172888). David was discharged as a Trooper from the 3/10th Commando Squadron on 17th December 1945. 1.4.4.6.4.4.12 ~~ Lesley Roy Edgerton Lesley was born at Rye Park on 2nd February 1897 (NSW 1897/11028). Lesley died on 7th June 1915 aged only 18 years (NSW 1915/7471) and he is buried in the Rye Park cemetery. 1.4.4.6.4.4.13 ~~ Cecil Arthur Edgerton Cecil and his twin brother Albert were born at Rye Park on 26th June 1900 (NSW 1900/20691). Cecil married Ellen May Stevens at Yass on 12th June 1937 (NSW 1937/8282); she was born at Balranald in 1914. Cecil and Ellen had at least two children Maureen and Melville. Cecil died at Young on 8th November 1942 aged 42 years (NSW 1942/31228). 1.4.4.6.4.4.14 ~~ Albert James Edgerton Albert and his twin brother Cecil were born at Rye Park on 26th June 1900 (NSW 1900/20692). Albert married Nellie J. Hinton at Young on 2nd April 1930 (NSW 1930/7171); she was born at Young in 1907. Albert and Nellie had at least four children Glenda, Geoffrey, Gregory and David. Albert died at Young on 7th November 1982 aged 82 years. 1.4.4.6.4.5 ~~ James Robert Alchin James was born at Yass on 10th October 1859 (NSW 1859/14424). Rebecca died at Yass in 1865 aged 4 years (NSW 1865/6556). 1.4.4.6.4.7 ~~ Emily Jane Alchin Emily was born at Jerrawa Creek on 12th April 1864 (NSW 1864/16736) and her mother probably died giving birth to her. Emily married William "Joseph" Cooper at Yass in 1882; he was born at Penrith in 1865. Joseph and Jane probably had at least ten children Ethel (1882), Albert (1885), Josephine (1886), Christina (1887), Edward (1889), Mary (1891), Frances (1894), Francis (1896), Alice (1901) and Ruth (1907). Joseph appears to have been either an itinerant worker or a fairly footloose individual. His children were born over a 20 year period in the towns of Albury, Queanbeyan, Cootamundra, Cowra, Blayney, Yass and Captain's Flat. Emily probably died at Burwood in 1931 aged 67 years (NSW 1931/13327). William died at Newtown in 1936 aged 71 years. 1.4.4.6.4.7.1 ~~ Ethel M. Cooper Ethel was born at Albury in 1882 (NSW 1882/10158). 1.4.4.6.4.7.2 ~~ Albert E. Cooper Albert was born at Albury in 1885 (NSW 1885/12523). 1.4.4.6.4.7.3 ~~ Josephine W. Cooper Jospehine was born at Queanbeyan in 1886 (NSW 1886/32617). She married Stephen Alban Rowney at Sydney in 1903 (NSW 1903/5281). Stephen and Josephine had at least seven children Stephen (1904), Josephine (1906), Vincent (1908), Edwin (1910), Elizabeth (1913), James (1917) and Leo (1918). At least three of their children died at a very young age. Josephine died at Petersham in 1935 (NSW 1935/22584) aged 49 years. Stephen subsequently married Mary Millicent Fitzpatrick at Katoomba in 1938 (NSW 1938/2205). 1.4.4.6.4.7.3.1 ~~ Stephen Alban Rowney Stephen was born at Katoomba in the Blue Mountains west of Sydney in 1904 (NSW 1904/13073). 1.4.4.6.4.7.3.2 ~~ Josephine W. Rowney Josephine was born at Bowral in the NSW southern Highlands in 1906 (NSW 1906/32641). Josephine died at Lithgow (between Katoomba and Bathurst) in 1907 aged 1 year (NSW 1907/09588). 1.4.4.6.4.7.3.3 ~~ Vincent C. Rowney Vincent was born at Lithgow in 1908 (NSW 1908/36980). Vincent married Thelma V. Maclean at Marrickville in 1933 (NSW 1933/16717). 1.4.4.6.4.7.3.4 ~~ Edwin Joseph Rowney Edwin was born at Chatswood in 1910 (NSW 1910/37274). Edwin married Edith Ella Peacock at Katoomba in 1937 (NSW 1937/8515); she was born at Canterbury in 1915. 1.4.4.6.4.7.3.5 ~~ Elizabeth V. Rowney Elizabeth was born at Sydney in 1913 (NSW 1913/26769). Elizabeth married Kenneth Henry Batman Dean at Katoomba in 1936 (NSW 1936/9423); he was born at St Leonards in 1908. 1.4.4.6.4.7.3.6 ~~ James J. Rowney James was born at Sydney in early 1917 (NSW 1917/00054). James died at Redfern shortly afterwards (NSW 1917/00551). 1.4.4.6.4.7.3.7 ~~ Leo B. Rowney Leo was born ay Canterbury in 1918 (NSW 1918/13143). Leo died at Burwood in 1920 aged only 2 years (NSW 1920/19190). 1.4.4.6.4.7.4 ~~ Christina Rose Cooper Christina was born at Queanbeyan in 1887 (NSW 1887/33512). She married Alfred Elias at Redfern in 1914 (NSW 1914/1184); he was born at Sydney in 1893. Alfred died at Newtown in 1921 aged only 28 years. 1.4.4.6.4.7.5 ~~ Edward Percy Cooper Edward was born at Cootamundra in 1889 (NSW 1889/21917). He may have married Alice Florence Poole at Bowral in 1929 (NSW 1929/9703); she was born at Cumberland in 1887. Alice died at Sydney in 1968 aged 81 years. 1.4.4.6.4.7.6 ~~ Mary Ellen Cooper Mary was born at Cowra in 1891 (NSW 1891/11714). She married Valentine Henry Baker in 1911; he was born at Cumberland in 1887. Valentine died at Redfern in 1932 aged 45 years. Mary died in 1967 aged 76 years. 1.4.4.6.4.7.7 ~~ Frances E. Cooper Frances was born at Blayney in 1894 (NSW 1894/6694). She married William A. McDougall in 1920. 1.4.4.6.4.7.8 ~~ Francis Bernard Cooper Francis was born at Captain's Flat in 1896 (NSW 1896/29722). He may have married Elizabeth M. Gibb at Marrickville in 1920 (NSW 1920/2795). Francis died at Newcastle in 1971 aged 75 years. 1.4.4.6.4.7.9 ~~ Alice R. Cooper Alice was born at Captain's Flat in 1901 (NSW 1901/30691). 1.4.4.6.4.7.10 ~~ Ruth Cooper Ruth was born in 1907. She died in 1935 aged only 28 years. 1.4.4.6.4.8 ~~ John Alchin John was born at Yass in 1866 (NSW 1866/16932). He married Catherine Jane Osborn at Sydney on 1st November 1898 (NSW 1898/7021); she was born at Mt Keira in 1856. John and Catherine may have had a child Sarah (1899). Catherine died at Forbes in 1939 aged 83 years. John died at Forbes in 1942 aged 76 years. 1.4.4.6.4.9 ~~ Sydney Alchin Sydney was born at Chain of Ponds near Yass on 25th July 1869 (NSW 1869/20036). The witness to his birth was Ellen Bush. 1.4.4.6.4.10 ~~ Alfred Alchin Alfred was born at Chain of Ponds in 1871 (NSW 1871/19814). He married Sarah Johnson at Goulburn on 7th June 1916 (NSW 1916/8478); she was born on 12th September 1870. Alfred and Sarah had at least one child Rohna (1917). Alfred died at Lade Vale near Gunning on 1st May 1921 aged 50 years (NSW 1921/5950) and he is buried next to his parents in the Methodist cemetery, Dalton. Probate of his estate was granted (Probate NSW 4/107279). Sarah died in Queensland on 12th September 1969 aged 99 years. 1.4.4.6.4.10.1 ~~ Rohna Margaret Alchin Rohna was born at Paddington in 1917 (NSW 1917/11143). She married Charles Stanford Lord in 1938; he was born at Bega in 1913. Charles and Rohna had at least two children Barry and Olga. Rohna later married Frederick Bayley. 1.4.4.6.4.11 ~~ Margaret Alchin Margaret was born at Yass in 1873 (NSW 1873/21027). The 1906 electoral roll for the seat of Werriwa records that Margaret was living with her parents at Chain of Ponds. She married John Patrick Graham at Goulburn in 1908 (NSW 1908/1576); he was born at Newcastle in 1865. John and Margaret had at least one child Patrick (1912). Margaret died at Dalton on 23rd March 1912 aged 39 years almost certainly from complications arising from childbirth. 1.4.4.6.4.11.1 ~~ Patrick Norris Graham Patrick was born at Dalton on 12th March 1912. He married Isabel Kathleen Carson in 1937; she was born in 1901. Patrick and Isabel had at least two children Margaret and Moya. Patrick died on 31st May 1975 aged 63 years. 1.4.4.6.4.12 ~~ Fanny Euphemia Alchin Fanny was born at Yass in 1875 (NSW 1875 V160 # 1008). She died at Yass in 1876 (NSW 1876/11069). 1.4.4.6.4.13 ~~ Emily Alchin Emily was born at Yass in 1876 (NSW 1876/22656). She died there the same year. 1.4.4.6.4.14 ~~ Ernest William Alchin Ernest was born at Gunning in 1878 (NSW 1878/25119). The 1906 electoral roll for the seat of Werriwa records that Ernest was a farmer of Chain of Ponds. He married Adelaide Wilhelmine Morgan at Gunning on 25th June 1913 (NSW 1913/7476); she was born at Gunning in 1889 the daughter of John William and Mary Morgan. Ernest and Adelaide had at least five children Esmerelda (1914), Ronald (1915), Colin (1917), Errol (1919) and Jack (1921). The 1932 electoral roll records that Ernest was still a farmer of Chain of Ponds near Gunning. Ernest died at Gunning on 2nd February 1953 (NSW 1953/755) aged 74 years (Probate NSW 404860). Adelaide died at Goulburn on 14th November 1967 (NSW 1968/11662) aged 78 years (Probate NSW 652882). 1.4.4.6.4.14.1 ~~ Esmerelda May Alchin Esmerelda was born at Gunning on 31st March 1914 (NSW 1914/21377). She was baptised at Gunning on 29th April 1914. Esmerelda married John Patrick Stanislaus Moore at Sydney in 1945 (NSW 1945/490); he was born at Albury in 1909. John and Esmerelda had at least three children Shane, Pamela and Rosanne. Esmerelda died at Tamworth on 26th August 1986 aged 72 years. 1.4.4.6.4.14.2 ~~ Ronald Lawrence Alchin Ronald was born at Gunning on 26th September 1915 (NSW 1915/47356). Ronald enlisted in the Australian Army at Kolodong on 9th August 1942 (NX106836). He was discharged as a Sergeant from the 43rd Landing Craft Company on 29th March 1946. Ronald married Dorothy Elaine Conachie in 1947. Ronald and Dorothy had at least two children Lynette and Julie. Ronald died in October 1989 aged 74 years. Dorothy died in February 1999. 1.4.4.6.4.14.3 ~~ Colin Rees Alchin Colin was born at Goulburn on 26th November 1917 (NSW 1917/47303). He was baptised at Gunning on 2nd February 1918. Colin enlisted in the Australian Army at Narellan on 20th May 1943 (NX132722). He was discharged as a Gunner from the 104th Tank Attack Regiment on 29th June 1946. Colin married Mary Josephine Hallam in 1948. Colin and Mary had at least three children William, Kerry and Maralyn. Colin died at Asquith on 23rd October 1964 (NSW 1964/34522) aged only 46 years (Probate NSW 626854) Mary also died at Asquith (NSW 1966/24274) on 18th July 1966 (Probate NSW 597307). 1.4.4.6.4.14.4 ~~ Errol Ernest Alchin Errol was born at Gunning on 12th December 1919. He was baptised at Gunning on 21st December 1919. Errol enlisted in the Australian Army at Paddington on 29th June 1940 (NX51586). He was discharged as a Sergeant from the 1st Machine Gun Training Company on 1st November 1945. Errol married Barbara Lesley Lang at Gunning in 1954 (NSW 1954/6161); she was born in 1931. Errol and Barbara had three children John, Mark and Karen. The 1955 electoral roll records that Errol was a grazier of Hillgrove near Dalton. Errol died at Port Macquarie on 30th November 2003 aged 83 years. 1.4.4.6.4.14.5 ~~ Jack Avelyn Alchin Jack was born at Gunning on 14th December 1921. He enlisted in the Army at Bathurst on 14th May 1943. He was discharged as a Sergeant from the 5th Field Bakery on 28th June 1946. Jack married Maureen Robards at Molong in 1947 (NSW 1947/21018); she was born in 1926. Jack and Maureen had at least three children a child who died in infancy in 1949, Jennene and Kathlyn. Maureen died in 1967 aged only 41 years. Jack died at Strathfield on 17th July 1978 aged 56 years (Probate NSW 863990). |
