1.4.4.6.5.6.4  ~~  Sydney Norman Philip Cahill

Sydney was born at Waterloo on 17th February 1902 (NSW 1902/17615). He died on 18th December 1985 aged 83 years.

1.4.4.6.5.6.5  ~~  Harris Cedric Cahill

Harris was born at Waterloo on 11th August 1908. He married Annie Laurie Price in 1935; she was born at Sutherland in 1911. Harris died on 18th December 1985 aged 78 years.

1.4.4.6.5.7  ~~  Rebekah Alchin

Rebekah was born at Dalton on 9th January 1866 (NSW 1866/16757). Rebekah died at Yass on 3rd February 1867 aged 13 months (NSW 1867/8546).

1.4.4.6.5.8  ~~  Samuel A. Luxon

Samuel was born at Yass in 1869. He may have been the natural son of Hannah Luxon and Ambrose Alchin junior. Samuel died atYass the same year.

1.4.4.6.5.9  ~~  Eva Alchin

Eva was born at Jerrawa Creek on 7th November 1870 (her birth was not registered under the surname of Alchin). She married Frederick Michael West on 6th March 1894; he was born at Braidwood on 15th November 1873.

Frederick and Eva had at least two children – Sydney (1895) and Ivy (1902). Ferderick died on 26th May 1931 aged 57 years. Eva died at Cootamundra on 9th June 1955 aged 84 years.

1.4.4.6.5.9.1  ~~  Sydney Ambrose West

Sydney was born at Cootamundra on 25th January 1895. He married Ethel Frances Booth on 7th November 1914; she was born at Chiltern, Victoria on 31st October 1894. Sydney and Ethel had at least four children – Joan (1916), Ivy (1918), Cecil and Gwenneth.

Sydney died on 5th March 1963 aged 68 years. Ethel died on 25th September 1982 aged 87 years.

1.4.4.6.5.9.1.1  ~~  Joan Ethel West

Joan was born at Cootamundra on 11th March 1916. She married William Evelyn Giles on 17th September 1937; he was born at Temora on 2nd August 1912. William and Joan had at least four children – Elizabeth, Brian, Janette and Richard.

William died on 27th July 1994 aged 81 years.

1.4.4.6.5.9.1.2  ~~  Ivy Mae West

Ivy was born at Cootamundra on 18th May 1918. She married Milton John Wade on 16th December 1944; he was born at Yass on 25th February 1914. Milton and Ivy had at least two children – Wendy and Anthony.

1.4.4.6.5.9.2  ~~  Ivy Irene Mae West

Ivy was born at Cootamundra on 23rd March 1902. She married Dalton Kinley Reed Leeson on 12th May 1931; he was born at Gulgong on 21st October 1904. Dalton and Ivy had at least one child – Dorothy. Ivy died on 16th August 1964 aged 62 years. Dalton died on 24th December 1976 aged 72 years.

1.4.4.6.5.10  ~~  Sidney Alchin

Sidney was born at Jerrawa Creek on 2nd February 1874 (his birth was also not registered under the surname of Alchin). He married Alice Sophia Briggs at Cootamundra on 2nd March 1898 (NSW 1898/874); she was born at Muttama near Cootamundra on 15th January 1881, the daughter of John Thomas Briggs (a farmer) and Susan Waite.

The wedding ceremony was performed by Rev'd J. Cloudesley Betts (C of E) at the home of the bride at Muttama and the witnesses were Susan Waite and Alger Petty. At the time of his marriage Sidney was a farmer of Stockinbingal.  

Sydney and Alice had at least ten children – Nevil (1899), Eva (1900), Thelma (1904), Vera (1906), Sydney (1908), Jack (1910), Maurice (1913), Nellie (1915), Thomas (1918) and Norma. The 1932 electoral roll records that Alice was living at Cootamundra but Sydney was not registered as a voter.

Sydney died at Liverpool in 1952 aged 78 years (NSW 1952/17380). Alice died at Goulburn in 1959 aged 78 years.

1.4.4.6.5.10.1  ~~  Nevil Victor Alchin

Nevil was born at Stockinbingal near Young on 5th March 1899 (NSW 1899/8765). He was baptised at Cootamundra on 23rd April 1899. After leaving school Nevil was employed as a blacksmith's striker. Nevil enlisted in the 1st A.I.F. at Cootamundra on 12th October 1915. He was assigned to the 20th Infantry Battalion with the rank of Private and with the regimental number of 4354. He must have given a false age as he was only 16 years old at the time.

His attestation sheet provides Nevil's physical description: Height 5' 9"; weight 154 lbs; fair complexion, blue eyes and light brown hair. He was a member of the Church of England. Nevil sailed for Egypt as part of the 11th reinforcements to the 20th Battalion. At about this time the Australian Army was being reorganised into five divisions and after arriving in Egypt, Nevil was transferred to the 55th Infantry Battalion.

Nevil was sent to France on 18th October 1916 and spent some time at the depot at Etaples. On 29th November 1916 he was transferred to the 14th Light Trench Mortar Battery. On 15th May 1917 Nevil was wounded in action, possibly when his battery came under artillery counter-fire. He received severe wounds to both his legs, buttocks and back. As a result of these wounds Nevil's left leg was amputated at the thigh.

After initial treatment which saved his life at a nearby Casualty Clearing Station and a hospital in France, Nevil was evacuated to England on 24th May 1917. He spent several months in hospital and convalescing before he embarked for Australia aboard HMAT "Anchises" on 1st November 1917.

Nevil disembarked at Sydney on 4th January 1918 and he was discharged from the Army on 3rd July 1918. He was granted a pension of 3 pounds per fortnight effective from 4th July 1918. At the time he was living at George Street, Liverpool.

Nevil married Doris May Graham at Lockhart in 1919 (NSW 1919/5819); she was born at Casino in about 1902. Nevil and Doris had at least three children – Patricia, Donald and Laurence. Nevil re-enlisted in the Australian Army at Bathurst on 14th March 1943 (NX149161). He was discharged as a Warrant Officer Grade I from 25 ADCO on 28th October 1946.

Nevil died in 1965 aged 65 years (NSW 1965/30169). Doris died at Faulconbridge on 28th November 1976 aged 74 years. She had formerly lived at Liverpool (Probate NSW 831527).

1.4.4.6.5.10.2  ~~  Eva Alice Alchin

Eva was born at Muttama near Cootamundra on 25th October 1900 (NSW 1900/30897). She was baptised at Temora on 16th December 1900. Eva died at Cootamundra at the age of 2 years on 7th June 1902 (NSW 1902/4932).

1.4.4.6.5.10.3  ~~  Thelma Daphne Alchin

Thelma was born at Cootamundra on 12th January 1904 (NSW 1904/2503). She married John Leonard Mulrooney at Lockhart in 1923 (NSW 1923/12607). John and Thelma had at least one child – Dorothy. Thelma died at Broken Hill in 1968 aged 64 years. John died at Broken Hill in 1969.

1.4.4.6.5.10.4  ~~  Vera May Alchin

Vera was born at Lockhart on 6th May 1906 (NSW/14794). She married Rupert Mathew Kennedy at Coonamble in 1926 (NSW 1926/17653). Rupert was born at Coonamble on 25th February 1902 and he was the son of xxx. Rupert and Vera had at least one child – Geoffrey.

Rupert enlisted in the Army at Paddington on 19th December 1941 (N387483). Rupert was discharged from the 2nd Garrison Battalion as a Private on 3rd April 1942.

1.4.4.6.5.10.5  ~~  Sydney Augustus Alchin

Sydney was born at Lockhart on 11th November 1908 (NSW 1908/37119). He married Muriel Edith O'Connell (nee Carter) at Lockhart in 1933 (NSW 1933/9434); she was born at Lockhart on 27th June 1905. Sydney and Muriel had at least five children – Enid, Marie, Neville, Gwendoline and Richard.

Sydney died at Leeton on 4th August 1963 aged 55 years (NSW 1963/25378). Muriel died on 11th February 1987 aged 81 years.

1.4.4.6.5.10.6  ~~  Jack Ambrose Alchin

Jack (also known as James) was born at Lockhart on 28th September 1910 (NSW 1910/39967). He married Veronica Elizabeth Maud Lewis at Temora on 19th February 1936 (NSW 1936/858); she was born at Cootamundra on 23rd July 1910. Jack and Veronica had at least six children – Norma, Lawrence, Neville, Douglas, Mervyn and Donald.

Jack moved his family to Shepparton in Victoria (probably after the Second World War). Veronica died on 11th February 1967 aged 56 years. Jack died at Numurkah on 8th May 1976 (Vic 1976/12848) aged 66 years. Probate was granted on his estate (Probate Vic 07/854).

1.4.4.6.5.10.7  ~~  Maurice Cyril Alchin

Maurice was born at Harden on 30th May 1913 (NSW 1913/21061). He married Glenice Eileen Grant at Lockhart on 26th October 1939 (NSW 1939/23774); she was born at Lockhart on 29th January 1918. Maurice and Glenice had at least two children – Maurice and Peter.

Maurice enlisted in the Australian Army at Paddington on 30th May 1940 (NX22844). He was discharged as a Corporal from HQ 1 Corps Transport Company on 28th November 1945. Glenice died at Wagga Wagga on 13th December 2004 aged 86 years.

1.4.4.6.5.10.8  ~~  Nellie Aura Alchin

Nellie was born at Lockhart in 1915 (NSW 1915/34362).

1.4.4.6.5.10.9  ~~  Thomas William Alchin

Thomas was born at Lockhart on 9th March 1918 (NSW 1918/7334). Thomas (NX10011) and his cousin or nephew Lawrence (Lawrence Graeme Alchin (NX10010) who was born at Liverpool on 2nd January 1919) enlisted in the Australian Army at Victoria Barracks, Sydney on 6th February 1940.

Thomas and Lawrence were both posted to the 2/33rd Infantry Battalion where they saw active service in the Western Desert and the Pacific campaigns. Thomas was discharged from the Army as a Sergeant on 8th October 1945.

Thomas married Dorothy Mabel Lambert at Parramatta in 1943 (NSW 1943/12099); she was the daughter of Charles Frederick and Minnie Lambert and she was born in 1922. Thomas and Dorothy had at least five children – Robert, David, Christine, Philip and Diane.

Thomas died at Liverpool on 13th July 1973 aged 58 years. Dorothy died at Macquarie Fields on 5th June 1974 (NSW 1974/7954) aged 52 years (Probate NSW 778271).

1.4.4.6.5.10.10  ~~  Norma B. Alchin

Norma was born at Lockhart in 1924 and she died there in the same year (NSW 1924/15618).

1.4.4.6.6  ~~  Ann Alchin

Ann was born at Staplehurst, Kent on 7th July 1832. She migrated to New South Wales with her family aboard the "Palmyra" in 1838. Ann married Thomas Bayley at Jerrawa Creek on 1st August 1855 (NSW 1855 V86 # 81). Thomas was born in Van Diemans Land in 1833 and he was the son of Robert Bayley (1800-1864) and Sarah Baker. Thomas' elder sister Maria married Ann's elder brother William James Alchin. The Bayley's arrived in the Yass district in about 1846.

Thomas and Ann had at least ten children – John (1854), Robert (1857), Lucy (1858), Sarah (1862), Thomas (1863), Maria (1866), George (1869), Rachel (1871), Emily (1873) and Lillian (1875). Thomas was a farmer at Chain of Ponds on Jerrawa Creek from 1854 to 1873, a hotelkeeper at the Commercial Hotel, Gundaroo in 1882 and a squatter along the railway line at Queanbeyan in 1885.

Thomas died at Queanbeyan on 17th April 1885 (NSW 1885/14050) aged 52 years and he was buried at Bungendore. Ann died at Leichhardt on 4th July 1914 aged 82 years and she is buried in the old Methodist cemetery at Rookwood Necropolis in Sydney.

1.4.4.6.6.1  ~~  John Bayley

John was born at Chain of Ponds near Jerrawa in 1854. John married Emily Ginn at the Wesleyan Church, Gunning on 28th March 1877 (NSW 1877/04828). Their wedding was reported in the Yass Courier of 30th March 1877. Emily was born at "Bloomsbury Square", Chain of Ponds near Jerrawa on 10th October 1854.

Emily was the daughter of William Ginn and Anna Maria Bricheno who originally came from Huntingdonshire in England (for a history of the Bricheno family see "From a Flooded Fen" by the author). Anna Bricheno was a niece of the author's great great great grandmother Sarah Bricheno.

John and Emily had at least two children – Mary (1878) and Alexander (1882). John was a farmer and ran a property "The Springs" near Gunning. He died at Gunning on 12th May 1922 aged 68 years (NSW 1922/4858) and he is buried in the Methodist cemetery there.

The 1932 electoral roll for the seat of Eden-Monaro records that Emily was still living at "The Springs". She died on 18th May 1935 aged 81 years (NSW 1935/6533). Emily is buried at Gunning with her husband.

1.4.4.6.6.1.1  ~~  Mary Victoria Bayley

Mary was born at Gunning in 1878 (NSW 1878/25078). Mary never married. The 1932 electoral roll records that she was living with her brother and her widowed mother at "The Springs", Gunning.

1.4.4.6.6.1.2  ~~  Alexander Amos Bayley

Alexander was born at Dixon's Springs near Gunning on 15th April 1882 (NSW 1882/29368). The witness to his birth was the baby's grandmother, Anne Bayley nee Alchin. The 1932 electoral roll records that Alexander was a labourer and he was living with his sister and his widowed mother at "The Springs", Gunning.

Alexander died at Goulburn in May 1965 aged 83 years.

1.4.4.6.6.2  ~~  Robert Bayley

Robert was born at Chain of Ponds on 5th December 1857 (NSW 1857/12379). Robert married Lucy Jane Waters (she was possibly his cousin) at Gunning in 1883 (NSW 1883/07347). Lucy was born at Dalton on 14th May 1864 and she was the daughter of George Waters and Maria Fawcett. Robert and Lucy had at least five children – Alfred (1884), Allen (1885), Thomas (1886), Maud (1889) and Laura (1890).

The 1906 electoral roll for the seat of Werriwa records that Robert was a farmer and he and his family were living at Chain of Ponds near Jerrawa. His property was called "Daisy Dell". The 1932 electoral roll records that Robert was still farming at "Daisy Dell".

Robert died at his home at Chain of Ponds on 26th February 1933 aged 76 years (NSW 1933/1783). Lucy died there on 4th August 1941 (NSW 1941/20981) aged 77 years. They are buried alongside each other in the Methodist cemetery, Dalton.

1.4.4.6.6.2.1  ~~  Alfred Robert Bayley

Alfred was born at Chain of Ponds on 7th January 1884 (NSW 1884/33524). There is no record of him on any electoral roll for the area. Alfred died at Chain of Ponds on 19th December 1963 aged 79 years and he is buried in the Methodist cemetery, Dalton with his younger brother.

1.4.4.6.6.2.2  ~~  Allen George Bayley

Allen was born near Jerrawa on 17th January 1885 (NSW 1885/34581). Prior to enlisting he was a labourer on his father's farm at Chain of Ponds. Allen enlisted in the 1st A.I.F. at Goulburn on 24th July 1917 and he was assigned to the 4th Infantry Battalion with the rank of Private and regimental number 7447.

His attestation sheet gives his physical description: Height – 5' 3"; weight – 120 lb; fair complexion, grey eyes and auburn hair. He was a member of the Methodist faith. After training Allen embarked with the 25th reinforcements to the 4th Battalion at Sydney aboard A14 "Euripdes" and he isembarked at Devonport in England on 25th December 1917. Not long after arriving in England Allen was sent to hospital with the measles.

After undergoing further training on Salisbury Plains, Allen was drafted to France on 1st April 1918. He was wounded by shrapnel in the shoulder and back on 12th August 1918. He was evacuated to England where it was also found that he was suffering from nephritis (kidney failure). He was invalided home aboard the transport ship "Burma" on 14th December 1918 and he disembarked at Sydney on 10th January 1919. Allen was discharged from the Army on 10th September 1919.

After his discharge Allen returned to the family farm. The 1932 electoral roll records that he was a labourer of Chain of Ponds. Allen died at Chain of Ponds on 4th November 1947 aged 62 years and he is buried with his elder brother in the Methodist cemetery, Dalton.

1.4.4.6.6.2.3  ~~  Thomas Bayley

Thomas was born at Chain of Ponds on 14th April 1886 (NSW 1886/35830). He married Edith Emily Jeffs at Gunning on 15th January 1913 (NSW 1913/01684). Edith was born at Jerrawa in 1888 and she was the daughter of Samuel Jeffs and Kate Northrope. Thomas and Edith had at least three children – Leila (1914), Vera (1917) and Robert (1922).

Thomas was a railway employee and he and his family lived at Michelago from 1913 until 1932. The family later moved to Picton where Thomas died on 25th August 1949 aged 63 years. Edith died at Queanbeyan on 4th May 1962 aged 74 years. She is buried at Picton with her husband.

1.4.4.6.6.2.3.1  ~~  Leila Joyce Bayley

Leila was born at Michelago on 27th March 1914 (NSW 1914/6116). She married Vincent James Lawler on 29th December 1934; he was born on 1st July 1901. Vincent and Leila had at least three children – Eunice, Barry and Christine.

Vincent died at Canberra on 7th October 1980 aged 79 years.

1.4.4.6.6.2.3.2  ~~  Vera Edith Bayley

Vera was born at Michelago on 1st August 1917 (NSW 1917/30523). She married Leonard Stanley Rutter on 28th November 1936; he was born at Thirroul on 1st December 1908. Leonard and Vera had at least one child – Janette.

Vera died in 1984 aged 67 years. Lawrence died on 11th July 1984 aged 76 years.

1.4.4.6.6.2.3.3  ~~  Robert Thomas Bayley

Robert was born at Queanbeyan on 16th February 1922. He enlisted in the Army at Randwick on 6th April 1943 (NX167294). Robert was discharged as a Craftsman from the 12th Advanced Workshop AEME on 13th September 1946.

He married Dorothy May Wright on 24th May 1947; she was born at Michelago on 10th December 1927. Robert and Dorothy had at least two children – Pamela and Lorraine. Dorothy died on 16th July 1967 aged only 39 years. Robert died on 5th August 2005 aged 83 years.

1.4.4.6.6.2.4  ~~  Maud Mary Bayley

Maud was born at Chain of Ponds on 1st April 1889 (NSW 1889/36530). She married Leonard Oswald Granger at Gunning on 20th September 1915; he was born at Gunning on 17th June 1879. Leonard and maude had at least four children – Rex (1916), Iris (1919), Noel (1921) and Audrey.

When their younger son was killed in New Guinea in April 1943 Leonard and Maud were living at 18 Mundy Street, Goulburn. Leonard died at Goulburn on 9th November 1943 aged 64 years. Maud died at Kogarah on 13th May 1966 aged 77 years.

1.4.4.6.6.2.4.1  ~~  Rex Leonard Granger

Rex was born at Gunning on 13th August 1916. He married Leila Dorothy Frost on 5th June 1937; she was born at Goulburn in 1916. Rex and Leila had at least three children – Darli, Dianne and Philip. Leila died in 1987 aged 71 years.

1.4.4.6.6.2.4.2  ~~  Iris Muriel Granger

Iris was born at Goulburn on 8th July 1919. She married Len Luff on 27th November 1943; he was born at Gundagai on 12th July 1911. Len and Iris had at least eight children – Noel, Ronda, Robert, Gregory, Jillian, Janine, Bryson and Michael.

Len died at Yass on 6th May 1985 aged 65 years.

1.4.4.6.6.2.4.3  ~~  Noel Ross Granger

Noel was born at Coromandel Street, Goulburn on 10th July 1921. After leaving school Noel was a grazier. He enlisted in the Australian Army during World War II and he was assigned to the 4th Auxiliary Horse Transport Company of the Australian Army Service Corps with the rank of Driver (N5141).

Noel died of wounds in New Guinea on 15th April 1943. He is buried in Milne Bay War Cemetery.

1.4.4.6.6.2.5  ~~  Laura Maria Bayley

Laura was born at Chain of Ponds on 1st October 1890 (NSW 1890/15830). She married John Roland Medway at Gunning on 5th October 1910; he was born at Spring Creek near Dalton in 1887. John and Laura had at least four children – Enid (1911), Claude (1914), Hazell (1919) and Clarence 1921.

Laura died at Oolong Creek on 19th May 1936 aged 45 years. John died at Goulburn on 29th July 1969.

1.4.4.6.6.2.5.1  ~~  Enid Elsa Medway

Enid was born at Gunning in 1911. She married William Alexander Mills in 1934; he was born at Yass in 1908. William and Enid had at least four children – Lester, Paul, Janet and Beryl. William died in 1975 aged 67 years. Enid died in 1986 aged 75 years.

1.4.4.6.6.2.5.2  ~~  Claude Alwyn Medway

Claude was born at Gunning on 15th February 1914. He married Thelma Grace Friend in 1938; she was born at Gunning on 21st March 1914. Claude and Thelma had at least four children – John, Dawn, Wendy and Ruth. Claude died at Gunning on 1st December 1960 aged 46 years. Thelma died on 22nd May 1984 aged 70 years.

1.4.4.6.6.2.5.3  ~~  Hazell Beryl Medway

Hazell was born at Gunning on 3rd October 1919. She married Robert John Chapple on 23rd May 1942; he was born at Gunning on 7th February 1915. Robert and Hazell had at least three children – John, Peter and Philip. Robert died on 16th August 1993 aged 78 years.

1.4.4.6.6.2.5.4  ~~  Clarence Medway

Clarence was born in 1921. He married Betty Clare Pearson in 1946; she was born in 1923. Clarence and Betty had at least four children – Barry, Allen, Julie and Ann. Clarence died on 28th June 1989 aged 68 years.

1.4.4.6.6.3  ~~  Lucy Ann Bayley

Lucy was born at Chain of Ponds in 1858 (NSW 1858/13766). Lucy married John B. McGeary at the Methodist church, Queanbeyan on 21st July 1885 (NSW 1885/07023). John was born at Chippendale in 1862 (NSW 1862/03198) and he was the son of Peter McGeary and Margaret Waters.

John and Lucy lived at Queanbeyan. They had at least seven children – Margaret (1886), Thomas (1888), Lily (1890), Kathleen (1894), Lucy (1895), Michael (1898) and Ivy (1899). The birthplace of the children was scattered across NSW and so John McGeary may have worked for the railways. The five youngest of John and Lucy's children died at a very young age.

John died in Sydney in 1907 aged 45 years (NSW 1907/126). Lucy died in Sydney in 1917 aged 59 years (NSW 1917/16314).

1.4.4.6.6.3.1  ~~  Margaret Sarah McGeary

Margaret was born at Duntroon in modern day Canberra on 15th December 1886 (NSW 1887/33397). She married David Franklin Simpson at Murrumburrah in 1905. He was born at Gorangoola Station near Beggan Beggan on 8th July 1880 (NSW 1880/28207) and he was the son of Joseph Simpson and Rachel Thompson.

David and Margaret had four children – Thomas (1905), Phyllis (1907), Ivy (1909) and Kathleen (1912). David died at Parramatta in 1954 aged 74 years. Margaret died at Auburn in 1962 aged 75 years.

1.4.4.6.6.3.1.1  ~~  Thomas J.S. Simpson

Thomas was born at Binalong on 5th June 1905 (NSW 1905/11754). He married Ruby F. Lawless at Granville in 1930; she was born in about 1907. Thomas enlisted in the Army during World War II (NX48576). Thomas and Ruby had one daughter and five sons.

1.4.4.6.6.3.1.2  ~~  Phyllis Rachel Simpson

Phyllis was born at Murrumburrah on 24th April 1907 (NSW 1907/15747). She married William Thompson on 3rd February 1924. William was born at Cootamundra on 22nd August 1900 (NSW 1900/33445) and he was the son of James Thompson and Ann Kelly. For most of his life William lived at 10 Gough Street, Granville and he worked at Kirby's as a machinist.

William and Phyllis had four children – Mavis, Phyllis, William and Kenneth. William died of lung cancer at Wollongong on 22nd November 1967 aged 67 years. Phyllis died at Nowra Hospital in June 1977 aged 70 years.

Ivy was born at Goulburn in 1909.

1.4.4.6.6.3.1.4  ~~  Kathleen Simpson

Kathleen was born at Annandale in 1912.

Thomas was born at Kogarah in 1888 (NSW 1888/7572). He married Sylvia May Austin at South Balmain in 1914; she was born at Glebe in 1895. Thomas and Sylvia had at least three children – Thomas (1915), Dulcie (1916) and Thomas (1922).

Thomas was born at Annandale in 1915 (NSW 1915/18424). He died there the same year (NSW 1915/6157).

Dulcie was born at Sydney in 1916. She married Francis Sydney Montgomery in 1937; he was born in Sydney in 1914.

Thomas was born at Parramatta on 7th November 1922. He enlisted in the Army at Sydney on 29th October 1941. Thomas was discharged as a Corporal from HQ 6 Anti-Aircraft Group on 10th September 1946.

Lily was born at Bega in 1890 (NSW 1890/29882). She died at Glebe the same year (NSW 1890/5267).

Kathleen was born at Bega in 1894 (NSW 1894/06186). She died at Newtown in 1895 aged 1 year (NSW 1895/02325).

Lucy was born at Newtown in 1895 (NSW 1895/25071). She died at Leichhardt in 1897 aged 2 years (NSW 1897/05099).

Michael was born at South Balmain in 1898 (NSW 1898/01213). He died at Balmain in the same year (NSW 1898/09871).

Ivy was born at Leichhardt in 1899 (NSW 1899/18868). She died at Newtown in 1901 age 2 years (NSW 1901/06298).

1.4.4.6.6.4  ~~  Sarah Bayley

Sarah was born at Jerrawa Creek in 1862 (NSW 1862/15234). Sarah married Thomas Cheeseman at Yass on 14th October 1885. Thomas was born at Liverpool in 1862 and he was the son of Noah Cheeseman and Margaret Barrett. Thomas was a blacksmith of Gundaroo. Thomas and Sarah had at least one child – Augusta (1886).

Sarah died at Queanbeyan on 16th January 1886, probably from complications from her pregnancy. She was buried in the Riverside Methodist cemetery, Queanbeyan. Thomas died at Boorowa in 1919 aged 57 years.

Augusta was born at Queanbeyan on 16th January 1886 (NSW 1886/32576).

1.4.4.6.6.5  ~~  Thomas Ambrose Bayley

Thomas was born at Gunning on 11th December 1863 (NSW 1864/16661). He married Hannah Maria Mitchell in 1878. Thomas and Hannah had at least three children – Frank (1881), Amy (1884) and Albert (1886).

Thomas died at McDonaldtown on 26th December 1891 aged only 28 years. Hannah died at Burwood in 1945.

Frank was born at Yass in 1881.

Amy was born at Goulburn in 1884.

1.4.4.6.6.5.3  ~~  Albert L. Bayley

Albert was born at Gunning in 1886. He married Eleanor Elsie Rayrillon in 1920.

1.4.4.6.6.6  ~~  Maria Bayley

Maria was born at Jerrawa Creek on17th September 1866 (NSW 1866/16931). Maria married Lynn David Nettleton at Queanbeyan on 17th November 1885 (NSW 1885/7031). Lynn was the son of William Nettleton and Mary Ann Shepherd. He was born at Gunning on 17th September 1854 and he was baptised at Marulan on 15th June 1862. He arrived in the Queanbeyan district in 1885 and he was employed as a labourer.

Lynn and Maria had at least ten children – Mary (1886), Cecil (1887), William (1890), Thomas (1892), Herbert (1893), Lynn (1895), Henry and Reginald (1897), John (1901) and Edna (1906). However at least four of them died at a very early age.

Lynn died at Lyttleton in 1928 aged 74 years. Maria died at Kingsford in 1942 aged 76 years.

1.4.4.6.6.6.1  ~~  Mary A. Nettleton

Mary was born at Goulburn in 1886 and she died there shortly afterwards (NSW 1886/6737).

1.4.4.6.6.6.2  ~~  George Cecil Nettleton

George was born at Queanbeyan on 15th August 1887 (NSW 1887/33529). He enlisted in the 1st A.I.F. on 25th September 1914 and he was assigned to the 1st Field Artillery Brigade with the rank of Private. He returned to Australia on 23rd October 1918.

George died at Hurstville in 1922 aged only 35 years.

William was born at Camp Hill, Victoria in 1890 but he had moved to NSW with his family by 1893. He married Daisy E. Kemp in 1924; she was born at Rockdale in Sydney in 1903.

Thomas was born at Camp Hill, Victoria in 1892 but he had moved to NSW with his family by 1893.

Herbert was born at Newtown in 1893 (NSW 1893/26937) and he died at Bowral shortly afterwards.

1.4.4.6.6.6.6  ~~  Lynn Joseph Nettleton

Lynn was born at Braidwood in 1895 (NSW 1895 Volume 121 # 9020) and he was baptised at Marulan near Goulburn on 17th March 1895. Lynn married Florence Jane Honey at Griffith in 1924; she was born at Narrandera in 1889.

Reginald was born at Goulburn in 1897 (NSW 1897/12365). He and his brother Henry were baptised at North Goulburn on 24th January 1898. Reginald died at Goulburn on 3rd April 1899 aged 2 years.

Henry and his brother Reginald were baptised at North Goulburn on 24th January 1898. However there is no birth or death registration for Henry and he may actually have been adopted.

John was born at Goulburn in 1901 (NSW 1901/31790). He married Florence May Masters in 1939; she was born at Quirindi in 1906.

1.4.4.6.6.6.10  ~~  Edna M. Nettleton

Edna was born at Goulburn in 1906. She married firstly Reuben W. Teaken in 1925; he was born at Redfern in 1903. Edna married secondly Ernest J.D. Swanson in 1934; he was born in 1905.

1.4.4.6.6.7  ~~  George Cecil Bayley

George was born at Jerrawa Creek on 2nd August 1869 (NSW 1869/20171). George died at Gunning at the age of 9 years on 21st February 1878 (NSW 1878/10628).

1.4.4.6.6.8  ~~  Rachel Bayley

Rachel was born at Gunning on 28th October 1871 (NSW 1871/19947). She married William Henry Foran on 11th March 1889; he was born at Braidwood in 1865. William and Rachel had at least three children – May (1893), Arthur (1897) and Vera (1901).

William died at Redfern in 1901. Rachel subsequently married Mark Foran (his brother or cousin) in 1906; he was born at Nelligen on 7th March 1879. Mark and Rachel had at least four children – Annie (c1905), Ruby (1908), Clare (1911) and Edward (1914).

Mark died at Canterbury on 13th November 1920 aged 41 years. Rachel died at Canterbury in 1932 aged about 61 years.

May was born at Moruya in 1893. She married Alexander Schofield in 1914. Alexander and May had at least two children – Alexander (1914) and Lorraine (1916). May died at Rockdale in 1960 aged 67 years.

Alexander was born at Petersham in 1914. He married Dulcie Alicia Clough in 1942; she was born at Canterbury in 1910.

Lorraine was born at Petersham in 1916. She married Edward Henry Stockin 1939; he was born at Petersham in 1909.

Arthur was born at Newtown on 30th May 1897. He married Hilda M. Brown on 20th July 1915; she was born at Seven Oaks, NSW in 1899. Arthur amd Hilda had at least one child – Allan.

Vera was born at Randwick in 1901. She married Thomas L. Smith in 1925.

Annie was probably a natural born daughter who was born between 1902 and 1905.

Ruby was born at North Balmain in 1908. She married Edward H. Stock in 1930.

Clare was born at Petersham in 1911. She died at Canterbury in 1931 aged only 20 years.

Edward was born at Petersham in 1914.

1.4.4.6.6.9  ~~  Emily Esther Bayley

Emily was born at Jerrawa Creek on 2nd October 1873 (NSW 1873/21149). She married Robert Rigby on 28th May 1892; he was born at Sydney in 1863. Robert and Emily had at least nine children – Pearl (1893), Robert (1895), Agnes (1898), George (1904), Nellie (1906), Florence (1908), Eileen (1910), Stanley (1912) and Dorothy (1914).

Robert died in 1934 aged 71 years.

Pearl was born at Glebe in 1893. She married Robert Henry Womsley in 1914; he was born at Waterloo in 1893. Robert and Pearl had at least two children – Pearl (1914) and Vivian (1916). Robert and Pearl divorced during the 1920s and Robert died at Camden in 1970 aged 77 years.

Pearl subsequently married Claude William Carter in 1938. Pearl died at Campsie in 1972 aged 79 years.

Pearl was born at Canterbury in 1914. She married William A. Smithson in 1934; he was born at Hurstville in 1912. Pearl died at Wollongong in 1966 aged 52 years.

Robert was born at Sydney in 1895. He married Olive M. Hawkins in 1911; she was born at Newcastle in 1890. Robert and Olive had at least three children – Hilda (1912), Winston (1914) and Margery (1918). Robert died at Bankstown in 1966 aged 71 years.

Dorothy was born at Canterbury in 1914. She married Alfred John Coad in 1937.

Lillian was born at Jerrawa Creek on 16th September 1875. She married John Sweeney in 1894. John and Lillian had at least three children – John (1895), Anne (1896) and Benjamin (1898). Lillian probably died in childbirth at Gunning on 24th February 1898.
