He probably married Ann Bigg at All Saints’ church, Maidstone on 19th April 1767; she was born in about 1740. The banns were first published at Linton on 20th and 27th March and 5th April 1767. It would be interesting to know if there is any relationship between Ann Bigg and a Hannah Bigg who married Anthony Alchin at Chart Sutton on 2nd November 1708 (see Part 2 paragraph 1.4.1). From the terms of his father’s will of 1790, of which William was one of the executors, it would appear that William married but had no surviving children. He was left the farm called “Nobbs” on the Maidstone to Biddenden Road at Chart near Sutton Vallence south of Linton. The farm was of four acres and was tenanted. A codicil to Edmund’s will stated that after William’s death the farm was to go to his wife for her lifetime after which it would revert to William’s brother Thomas. William died in 1805 aged 60 years and he was buried at Boughton Monchelsea on 17th May 1805. Ann died at Staplehurst aged 73 years and she was buried at Boughton Monchelsea on 27th January 1813. 1.6 ~~ Richard Alchin Richard was baptised at St Nicholas’ church, Linton on 23rd August 1747. Richard probably married Mary Chittenden at Maidstone on 11th April 1768. Richard was left the two dwellings at Marden by his father in 1790. The burial register at All Saints’ church, Maidstone records the burial on 7th July 1774 of “Mary Alchin, widow”. There is no surviving trace of any of their descendants if there were any. |
